Winsted Diner

My brother and I were looking for a power breakfast before a day 's fishing, and followed reviews to the Winsted Diner. We were greeted by Asa, whose heart and hands gave us a great breakfast, lively conversation and such a welcome that we a) ate at this Steak and Seafood restaurant that night and b) came back the next day for breakfast #2. No we are not hobbits! Eggs cooked to perfection (and let him know of you don 't want salt pepper), the best rye toast I 've had in a pandemic year, hearty hash browns, and good coffee. We do hope to come back again when we are in the area. Enjoy!

Stopped in recently for the first time in many years. Not much has changed...about 14 stools in a very narrow indoor setting. No tables inside, but a few in the alley outside. If you're looking for ambiance, frew frew, and ten pages of food choices, you've come to the wrong place. If you're looking for decent food at a reasonable price, this is the place. Seems like a lot of locals patronize the Winsted Diner. I opted for a 2-egg CBH omelet w cheddar. It comes w home fries and toast. The home-made CBH was very tasty, and the omelet was perfect. The HF seemed like regular cubed potatoes that were first deep-fried, then simmered on the griddle. Mixed w a modicum of onions and green pepper shavings. Very nondescript and bland. The rye toast, too big for the toaster, was toasted on half the sides only. Prices? Glad you asked. The menu on the wall says $8.95, the paper menu says less...I was charged $9.95. Not in the mood to quibble. The hit was definitely the omelet and the quaintness of the diner.

Classic diner. Nostalgia hit me as soon as we opened the door. The owner is charming. The breakfast sammich was delicious, the coffee was outstanding. Will be back again, very soon!
