Mario's Tuscany Grill - WINSTED

I’m giving this place 2 stars only because it was clean and the atmosphere was acceptable. If you’re visiting from out of town, I suggest looking for other options. In my opinion, this place was quite disappointing. To start, the table next to us actually sent their food back as soon as they were seated, which raised a red flag for me. I really dislike leaving negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I honestly can’t understand how this restaurant is still operating. I ordered a pizza, clam chowder, and a chicken dish. **Pizza:** The sauce tasted like it came from a can, and the overall quality reminded me of what you'd find at Chuck E. Cheese. I got half topped with eggplant and chicken, but the eggplant was terrible—either canned or rotten, and completely inedible. I expected chicken parm strips on the pizza, but instead received dry, unseasoned, and unbreaded chicken breast. **Clam Chowder:** This was actually not bad, but given the quality of the other dishes, I wouldn't be surprised if it was from a can. **Chicken Dish:** I believe I ordered the chicken napoletano. It was topped with eggplant, mozzarella, and vodka sauce. The chicken appeared boiled with no seasoning or breading, making it bland and tough. The entire dish lacked flavor, and I found myself adding a lot of salt just to get a few bites down. Overall, I truly don’t enjoy giving negative feedback, but I would describe the food as pretty terrible. To put it in perspective, my experience here was comparable, if not worse, than meals I had during my 10 years of service in the army. One last thing: I ordered a glass of red wine but had to send it back because it was corked. It left me worried about how long it had been sitting open under the bar. In short, save your money and seek out a better dining experience!

I ordered takeout, so my experience may differ from dining in, but overall, I felt rather underwhelmed by this place. The pizza was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. I also tried a few appetizers, and they were similarly just okay. The person who answered the phone was a bit rude. When I called, he asked for my order but seemed to be distracted, talking to someone else in the restaurant instead of just putting me on hold. When it came time to place my order, his responses were cold and dismissive. Given the prices in this town, I expected better service, at the very least. I might consider trying it again in person someday, but honestly, I wasn't impressed with the pizza, similar to my experience with most pizza places in Winsted.

The bar atmosphere is fantastic. My brother and I enjoyed dinner there. I ordered the Cajun jambalaya. It's become one of our favorite restaurants in Winsted, CT.

Stumbled upon this place after a long day of work with my husband. We were starving and just googled a place near by in Winsted. Not really sure how I wanted to rate this place so I gave them a three star. The place was inviting and located in a very cute spot on the main road. When we walked in, everyone was busy so they couldn't greet us right away. Finally, a gentlemen said we could seat ourselves. We picked a booth by the bar. I really enjoyed this entire space. Not too small, not too big, it was the perfect size. Full bar, about six decent size TVs on the wall. Our waitress was very nice, came to the table during our time there so she definitely did her job. I'm a pizza lover to the extreme so being in a new Italian Grill I had to try the pizza. The only thing that disappointed me was that when the pizza came out the bottom of it was slightly burnt so every bite I took, I tasted the burnt bottom so it was kind of ruining my taste and I was really trying to taste that cheese. It looked good. I'm a New Yorker by heart so I love pizzas you can fold so it had the perfect fold. With that being said, Burning the bottom made that taste in my mouth so I couldn't really tell if it was good enough. I was observing the room while eating and I noticed staff calling customers by their name so they seemed to get a lot of regulars there. They were getting busy around 5:30p and the bar was active. Overall it was a pleasant experience, but maybe I'll try something else on the menu. As I mentioned, I wasn't sure how to rate this place. People and personalities were a little dry, but nice.

Absolutely delicious and service was impeccable. Will return for another evening out for dinner.
