Thai Five - Wichita

Large #1 pho with some shredded Thai Basil. This is a lovely little hole in the wall restaurant, great egg rolls, and the bahn mi sandwichs are amazing. I've tried a couple other dishes here also that did not disappoint.

It's a quiet little place with great people. The only thing that I would change is it could have been a little cleaner, but it wasn't that bad. I had a sandwich with headcheese and my friend had the duck soup. I've always been a headcheese fan and this didn't disappoint. The duck soup my friend ordered was huge and tasted awesome. She ended up taking a large portion home for later.

The beef stew with French loaf was great! Lots of beef with chewy tendons and gristle, just the way I like it. Your jaw will get a good workout with this!

I brought my own bowl for takeout, and it seemed to confuse the staff a bit. I thought it would simplify the process. The meat was fully cooked, which was a plus. The pho #4 had a good flavor, but the portions were rather small. Just a note: they only accept cash.

This restaurant is a delightful hidden gem! The staff and owners, who appear to be two incredibly kind Vietnamese ladies, truly enhance the overall experience. The prices, as seen in the menu photo, are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. In contrast, Saigon and Little Saigon downtown charge more for smaller portions. The menu here is refreshingly diverse, offering delicious selections like wonton noodle soup with char siu (roast pork) and several unique dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. I tried the bun rieu (crab and tomato noodle soup) and it was absolutely amazing. I rarely come across this dish because I usually opt for pho, but it reminded me of laksa, a fantastic curry soup that's popular in Singapore and Malaysia but quite rare in Wichita. The flavors are rich and unforgettable, and I’ve sampled several dishes here, each one impressing me more than the last. They also provide a special chili sauce (not sriracha, which simply means chili) made from ground chili pepper in mild oil, available on every table. If you love chili, this is the perfect straightforward option. If I had to choose between this cozy spot and the more well-known restaurants, I would still choose this place for its value and authentic atmosphere. The flavors are vibrant and truly authentic!
