Walk-on's - Waco

More like Walk-Offs? I just spent the day driving home to Waco, about a 7 hour drive. Didn?t want to have to cook at home this evening, so stopped at Walk-Ons to grab a couple of burgers for my husband and I. We went in and ordered the burgers for takeout at the bar. Decided to sit there while we waited. We were never offered water, had to ask for it. And then we watched as the waitress sat in front of us putting lotion on her legs. She never went to wash her hands after. Health hazard? We waited about 15-20 min for the burgers to come out. Pretty average time I would say. Drove home, about a 10 minute drive, opened the burgers and to our dismay had extremely overcooked burgers and fries. I felt like Charlie Brown on the Great Pumpkin, ?Aww man, I got a rock?. Burnt. Hard. Complete let down. My husband proceeded to taste his and said it had zero flavor, if you could even taste the flavor over the flambé patty. For a $15 burger I expect A LOT more.

Excellent food! Took a little longer to be seated than seemed necessary. It wasn?t busy, just no employees were attentive to the front door. Just about the time we were going to give up, the hostess showed up. It also took a while to get our food ? It is a little pricey. But, all-in-all, it was worth the wait. Easy parking, nice staff, open atmosphere? and the food was GREAT!

While the dishes we ordered may have been ok, one wasn?t as great. It was too dry and I failed to realize that this was because they failed to add the crawfish sauce to my dish. I believe they can do better. Cannot expect too much from a location that hardly knows what they are doing but can only hope they get better with time. The manager, needs loads of training, the waitress we had, is lacking umph. I believe that if you don?t do a good job as a waitress, then you cannot be one to work there as you pretty much are the face of the establishment. How they treat one is how one makes their assumptions about the rest, can?t say our waitress was great but just like the manager, they need a lot of training! Couldn?t help but notice the sour faces we got from them when we requested certain items or requested a change in channel as it is expected to be done in a sports bar. Will give them a second chance but hopefully it is better than our first try here. Looking forward to trying out the other dishes they may have available and hope they are better tasting. Heck, the best part of the experience, the cook personally came out and apologized for forgetting to add the crawfish sauce to my dish which he didn?t have to do!

We had the grown up grilled cheese, ribeye poboy and alligator. Nothing disappointed. The service was quick and friendly. The food was cooked great. The seasoning was perfect. Recommend 10/10

5-22-22 UPDATE: We have been back three time since my original review. Food was great and service was good but not excellent. We stopped in at about 4 pm Sunday and they were not crowded. Most people were at the bar and the bar area had about 6 tables with people. Our drink server came right away and got our drink orders and said that we would be awaited on shortly. We counted 12 employees within the restaurant with two at the door, two behind the bar, one chatting with a customer who she obviously knew, one working her tail off and the others just walking around. We were ignored. After about 10 minutes the drink server came back and said that someone at the bar will be coming to take our order. Another ten minutes and a couple had just sat down beside us and the girl chatting with the customer came to take their drink order. We still had not ordered. I told my husband I would see what the server would do when she got done with the drink order for our neighbors and when she didn't even look at us (we were three feet apart) that was it for me. I stopped her and ask for our drink order ticket and explained why. She said she was sorry to hear that and gave us our ticket. I paid and we left. NO WAY is this acceptable. LOVE the food. But I am not sure I will give them another chance. I do not know what happened but the service was not what we expect nor should we have to. I am changing my rating from 5 stars to 1. Service is EVERYTHING. We have been wanting to go to Walk-Ons for awhile. We finally got the chance and went Sunday for a late lunch. We were greeted at the door and asked where we would like to sit. Our only preference was a table. We were seated at the bar area and sat in bar heigh table and chairs which was perfect for us since my husband is very tall. Our server was a lovely young lady named Isabella. She was prompt, efficient and courteous. We ordered our drinks and food and were served within 5 minutes. The food was excellent. We are still talking about our meals. A friend came over, shook my hand and accidentally spilled my water. A customer came over and tried to help and spilled my husband?s drink. Our server immediately came and started cleaning up and then another server came and cleaned the floor. This incident wa a handled with such efficiency and kindness. Bravo to Walk-Ons for having an incredible staff at all levels and amazing food. We will be back soon.
