Red Lion - Thames Ditton

We visited this pub 18 months ago and were disappointed with the decline in quality. It was a quiet Saturday night with only one inexperienced young waitress serving us, as there was no support from senior staff. Our food took a long time to arrive, and we were told our starters would be served with our main course, so we cancelled them. The latte I ordered was served lukewarm twice, and I gave up trying to get a hot coffee. It took three attempts to get a correct bill. Overall, our experience was not satisfactory and we feel that this establishment has deteriorated significantly.

The food was generally of a good standard. The chorizo and potato needed a thicker broth. The chicken was a little flavourless and the puddings and chips were poor. The pork and black bean was excellent though and the burger filled up a teenager. Service was generally good although we had to get our own spoons. Ambience was good.

My fiancé and I enjoy trying out different gastropubs in Surrey for our date nights, so when we saw the ratings for The Red Lion, we decided to give it a shot. The exterior of the building may look like a typical bar, but once inside, the decor, lighting, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere made us instantly feel comfortable and happy that we had made a reservation. The service was exceptional, with the manager taking care of us and going above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, with a good variety on the menu. I ordered the steak and ale pie, and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality and generous portion of meat, without any gristle. Overall, we had a wonderful time and look forward to returning in the future. I highly recommend this place to others.

We visited this pub 18 months ago, which is a deterioration. it was a Saturday night and was dead. a young waitress remained to serve us, she was very inexperienced and had no support from other senior staff. we had to wait too long for our food and said that our appetizers are served with our main course. then we cancelled our starters. I was served twice with a warm latte and gave up to get a warm coffee. Finally, it took 3 to try to provide a correct bill. this place has gone to the dogs!
