Sambucca - Sunderland

I went to Sambucca on Sunday night with four friends. We were seated and told that we needed to leave by 9pm, giving us only an hour to dine. We were okay with that, but were not happy that almost all of the staff hovered over our table, ensuring we would leave on time. They stood right next to us, giving us uncomfortable glares. The food was mediocre, especially the beef stroganoff that Philippa ordered, which did not resemble stroganoff at all. On a positive note, there was a delightful waitress from Romania who was very charming.

We have been regular customers of this restaurant for many years, but only recently returned after the pandemic. We were thrilled to see that nothing had changed. The food is delicious, the view of the river is beautiful, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, immediately recognizing us from our previous visits. They even remembered our usual order, which may indicate that we have frequented the restaurant a bit too often in the past! If you are in the area, be sure to stop by this restaurant.

My partner and I dined at this restaurant while staying overnight at the neighboring travel lodge. The food was outstanding, with generous portion sizes and all dishes served hot and freshly cooked. We also enjoyed some delicious cocktails.

I booked a table here with family and we could not fault the place or the meal. The staff were friendly and efficient, the view was lovely and the food was really good and great value.

I’ve been here in the past and you can’t fault the place, the restaurant is welcoming and overlooking the river. The staff are friendly and the food is tasty and a bargain. I’d highly recommend!
