Bidrage med feedbackWith all the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to the post-Zoo lunch with my family. A hidden "hole-in-wall", "locals-in-the-know" kind of place, serving great Italian. Unfortunately, our experience just didn't live up to expectations, especially given other reviews.First, Service. Not good. The first person who approached our table, who we assumed would be our sever, asked for our drink order. As we all were straight from a hot morning at the zoo, we asked for water. The sigh we got from the server set the tone for the rest of our meal. The poor service that followed after we placed our food order, only reinforced that this is an area needing management attention.Selection. The menu, which I assume might have been strictly for lunch, had limited options on it, with the daily "specials" only presented verbally by the server. As it was a Pizzeria, with the Wood Fired Oven front and center, we thought that would be a good way to go. And while it was okay, it was definitely nothing special, especially at the price point. The daily Pasta special would have been a better option.Ambiance. Small, tight, narrow space, with an open kitchen. It might be something more acceptable/perhaps charming at a lower price point and higher quality food and service, but at this level, it just came off as average at best. Of course having a loud mouth younger couple inches away, swear words and all, was bad enough, but the Italian themed soundtrack playing in the background, including I kid you not, the theme from the "Godfather", well enough said. While Fratelli's may be a solid local choice for those who know the owner, and the in's and out's, for other travelers, I would recommend pursuing other options.
I've heard really great things about this place, so I was kind of disappointed overall.. It was packed and lined up out the street when we went on a weekend...it's a hole in the wall, so already tight quarters. I feel like they crammed in tables just to be able to take more people at a time (one table was against a wall leading over the the bathroom hall...). I ordered the special of the evening which was pulled pork pizza (I usually love pulled pork anything), but it actually was just chunks of dried pork on a pretty dry pizza/flatbread. Everyone else had decent/OK meals, large sizes. It was so hot though, and we were by the entrance so kept getting a very cold breeze. Just made for an uncomfortable evening.the servers were nice enough, and a gentleman came over to check in on us during the meal, he was also greeting many people with hugs so seemed very familiar with regulars. I probably would try again, but maybe during a less busy day.
I love Penne Arrabiata and ordered the Fusilli Arrabiata at Fratelli's. It was a massive disappointment. Arrabiata means angry. It's supposed to be spicy. I had a bowl full of fusilli with way too much rapini, a few slices of sausage, tiny chunks of mozzarella ? and sun dried tomatoes sitting in a pool nearly a quarter inch deep of what I thought was melted butter. There was no spicy anything. I couldn't detect any garlic but found what looked like breadcrumbs. Perhaps that's what made the pasta at the top seem dry? I didn't complain because I wasn't paying. My mother loves this restaurant but their hours don't coincide with our usual actibities so last night was a special treat for her. The staff are great but unfortunarely I am not a fan of their spin on this particular dish.
Love their wood burning over pizza! simply delicious! Their pasta is also fabulous as well. Interior décor is pretty nice and charming.
All food ordered was overly salty. This included pizza, veal entree, and a chicken entree. Staff tried their best to rush us out. not sure why since there were a lot of empty tables and no people waiting to be seated. not worth the price
