Probably authentic, but not pleasant. I had the grilled squid, it still had its beak and guts - not nice.

Food to die for. Wonderful menu and incredible value for money. If you eat anywhere in Sagres you must try Estrela do mar. The owner and his family take a real pride in wonderful seafood dishes.We can't wait to eat there again next time we're in the Western Algarve.

The restaurant was busy on numerous occasions when we walked past, so one evening we decided to visit....It appears the maybe coach tours use this restaurant (although we couldn't be certain) but this obviously encourages more customers.We were the first ones to arrive and had to wait nearly an hour for our food. The kitchen was obviously busy preparing food for the 'coach tour' rather than our dinner. If it had just been myself and my husband then this would have been fine, but we have an 18month old daughter who wasn't so happy to wait! Maybe a warning that food would be slow before we ordered would have been courteous???The food was okay when it finally arrived, but nothing special, and certainly not worth the wait!

Lovely local restaurant serving traditional Portuguese food. My husband & I shared Monkfish Cataplana, delicious, filling & really good value for money. Definitely recommend!

This not a review but a small rant....My wife and I visited for lunch a couple of Sundays ago having had a great meal here the previous year. So we sat down, the restaurant was busy so we knew it would be a leisurely lunch, no problem we were in no hurry...15 minutes in, menus handed over, waiter/owner hurries off taking orders and serving.20 minutes in and a few glances to him and the waitress indicating the chance to order a drink would not be amiss....25 minutes in, a few more glances, a couple of hopeful waves and still no one thinks we need a drink..30 minutes in, tables who arrived later than us (locals, good luck to them!) have ordered and still no one thinks we might want a drink and perhaps to order some food31 minutes exit angry English couple with some choice words for the waiter/owner and his bone idle waitress, who looked like the classic sulky daughter.No skin off their nose I guess, restaurant was busy, who cares about a couple of middle aged Brits seemed to be their thing but really left a bad taste in my mouth.Had brilliant lunch in place round the corner which actually overlooked the harbour so I'll now write a good review about that and put this place on the "used to like it but wont go again" list.
