Bidrage med feedbackWe went here for a degustation and a light lunch. The food was delicious and extremely tasty, and the wines fabulous! A very competent woman showed us round the azienda.
We stayed at the Locanda COS and had dinner for the night. There's no menu. The chef and us talked earlier that day and he prepared food depending on what's good at the market and what we wanted to eat. It was simple, but quality was superb. Rustic and chic, the type of food that I adore, especially in Italy. Many of the vegetable were from its own garden. With their delicious wines (COS is a very famous winery), dining at the roofed terrace of this charming farm house was a dream.
We arrived for a much anticipated vineyard tour and lunch. Our tour was led by a lovely and very knowledgeable woman who explained how they use amphorae, clay jars to ferment their wines. This process is not widely used, but we were sure glad they did because the wines were fantastic. Especially, their super juicy red wine...Cerasuolo di Vittoria. The lunch was served in a splendid room with a huge fireplace and overlooked a lovely courtyard and their Inn. I would love to go back and stay here next time!
COS is one of my favorite wineries, and staying at the property’s agriturismo made the visit even more special. We arrived at COS just in time for a 4:00pm wine tour, where we saw firsthand the 100 clay amphorae the winery uses for its Pithos vintages. (Interesting fact: COS’s soil has a lot of sand that finds its way to Sicily via Africa and the sirocco. COS’s co-founder, Giusti Occhipinti, was one of two early Italian proponents of reviving the ancient technique of wine making with clay pots. At Locanda COS, we stayed in the Ponente room, which featured a large roof deck that, on a clear day, afforded a view of Mount Etna. That night, COS had enough guests in house to offer dinner in its vaulted ceiling main room; 6 others joined us for a yummy three course dinner with COS wine pairings, punctuated with cannolis that featured Modica’s famous chocolate. Breakfast at COS featured yogurt, watermelon, an omelette, chocolate muffin, another cannoli (successfully consumed! and coffee. Nora managed the locanda with warmth and ease.
We were taken here by a well known local. Very pleasant setting outside, friendly service, quite good food. Worth trying. Michael F
