Au Bon Pain - Newark

My husband was a patient in Christiana Hospital. I had breakfast and lunch in Au Bon Pan everyday. Excellent menu selections, everything I ordered was delicious. Chicken Noodle Soup hot and very tasty. Breakfast sandwiches were cooked well and country grilled cheese sandwich were excellent. My main meal on the go was the create your own salads with fresh romaine, chicken, boiled eggs, extra raisins, avocado, asiago cheese and a mixture of balsamic vinegar and ranch salad dressing chopped up well. I still come back to Christiana hospital just to order my salad.

On June 25, 2023 at 2:45 pm, I went to get a salad at this restaurant. The employee informed me that they were closing at 3, even though the website said they closed at 4. The ovens were already closed, and he refused to make a salad for me. When I asked if I could still get a salad, he just kept repeating that they were closing at 3. I then let him know that I understood they were closed and thanked him anyway. As I was leaving, he yelled to have a great day and laughed. It's not a big deal if the restaurant is closed, but it would have been better if he had just mentioned that they weren't taking any more orders.

Ate here today, I don’t leave many reviews but I felt the need to leave this one. Was visiting a family member today, I wanted to get food for my wife and father in law. My first time here, not my wife’s. I don’t understand the one star reviews. The food was tasty, fresh, the sandwich I ate was on fresh bread and that bread was amazing. I’d give an honest 7.5 out of 10 for sandwich’s and wraps. Where this place shined was the customer service. From the young lady who took my order, to the cashier, to the manager as assistance was needed to split my order, they went beyond professional to being friendly. I’ll be visiting the hospital over the course of the next week and will certainly give them my business. Thank all of you for giving me some light conversation and friendly service during an otherwise stressful day. 10/10 employees.

The food at this restaurant was delicious, however, the unpleasant gentleman working behind the counter rudely tossed the sandwiches onto the counter. When I requested extra mayo, he replied in a rude tone that I could add more myself. His behavior was unwarranted and disrespectful. It's evident why he does not have any support staff - he needs to improve his attitude.
