Uptown Veg - New York City

A cozy takeout spot with a few tables. I visited for the first time and enjoyed the jerk chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and dirty rice and beans – everything was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back!

- The eggplant stew was the standout dish—it was like fried eggplant in a rich sauce. So flavorful—every eggplant lover must try this! - The drummies were excellent as always. If you’re a meat eater, you’ll be amazed at how they transformed a simple plant-based protein into drumsticks that deliver such a satisfying taste. - The collard greens and quinoa fried rice were solid. They did what you’d expect, nothing extraordinary, but definitely good. - The real surprise was the jerk tofu. I usually don’t care for jerk seasoning because it can be too bitter for my taste, but this was savory and delicious! The tofu, or perhaps it was chick'n, had a hearty density that made it very filling. My partner and I ordered the large plate and shared it. I wish they had informed us in advance that it was a pay-by-the-pound style, but even so, our total came to around $27 and provided us with three very satisfying meals.

The restaurant offers an excellent variety of dishes. I tried the mac and cheese, barbecued beef, chicken, plantains, and rice and beans, and everything was delicious. You can pick any items you want, and the price is $9 or $10 per pound. There are a few tables inside and two outside for seating. This update is from my previous review on June 29, 2023.

Food was delicious and filling. It is a bit pricey. The price is based on weight. If you're not getting pricey options, like veggie meat, it may not be worth it. (Still worth checking out IMO. Average price for me was $14.
