Bidrage med feedbackA huge restaurant and a huge parking lot. Are they aiming for the tour bus crowd. The people were nice, but the highlight at dinner was a carafe of not-very-good wine. Huge servings; the mussels were all-you-can-ea at 12.40EU including a glass of white wine. Over 1000 grams of mussels, but tasteless... overpowered by onion. Arrabiata was so spicy it was inedible. Cardboard pasta; you'ld think it was impossible in Italy, and undistinguished pizza. Very. Mougins is known as a food capital; Toscan is outside of town physically, and a world away gustatorially.
Pass this restaurant frequently, but have never had the occasion to go. My family were here a few days and rather than cook as it was very hot we decided to go to our village . Passing in front of La Toscana, I said I 'd heard of it but never been Italian name Pizzas and the kids ' ears pricked upi suddenly!! Arriving in the vast car park I was firstly surprised by the sprawling batiment and gardens with tables spread out all over the patio and gardens. The menu was too well furnished for it all to be fresh, so I decided to NOT get complicated. Some of the kids had Pizza which could have fed 3 big eaters. My grand daughter ordered hamburger when the waitress asked if she wanted the kiddy meal she said no.....but once she saw the size of her hamburger served with salad and a gigantic portion of chips, we realised why the kiddy menu had been proposed !! There must have been 400gms of meat in her hamburger!! My son was more adventurous, knowing that home made Lasagne is one of my own specialities, he decided to try it, and was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty OK....not exceptional, but very edible and not swimming with either tomato or Bechemel sauce. I stuck to plain pasta as I didn 't feel safe ordering fish or complicated beef dishes as I don 't trust restaurants that have over full menus....especially on a Sunday !! There were obviously a lot of regulars there, with the same table of 10/12 people, known well to the owners it appeared. Conversation was easy as there was space between the tables which is always pleasant. Service too was pleasant and rapid. Don 't go there if you 're looking for a special or gastronomical dinner, but for a local pizza, pasta etc its pretty good for its price. Just don 't look for complicated stay simple.
They have a little of everything on their menu but there is no line in the food and all is mediocre. The fish we ordered was first undercooked so they said when they brought it to our table so they took it back but when it came back it was over cooked and very dry. The chicken liver in the salad was overcooked as well. The mussels we had were ok but too heavy cream . The waiter didn't want to understand English well. We had an ant nest under our table and the ants started climbing on our legs...
We have been passing La Toscana over and over again but didn 't go in. The reviews on Trip Advisor were mixed at best, so we really didn 't plan to go at all even though La Toscana is a five minute drive from our hotel (Le Mas du Golfe . When we looked at the menus of the other restaurants in the area and saw that most dishes were 23-35 Euros (just for the main course , we decided to try La Toscana after all. We could not have been happier. Our first surprise was that the restaurant is beautiful. We sat outside next to a small canal. It was magic. (There was a wedding going on inside. The restaurant features several formules (fixed menus . These are amazing deals. The cheapest was Euro 14.95 and there was a second at about 20.95. These prices are net, i.e. they include tip so customers just leave an additional 3-4 Euros on the table, not 10 or 15%. I had the 20.95 formule. This consisted of three courses, a starter, a main course and a dessert. In our group, for the starter I had was a salad with chicken livers that was delicious. My wife had a salad with delicious cold cuts and another member of our party had fish soup. There was no best choice. It was all delicious. The appetizers were also huge, really main course size. This is not haute cuisine, at least with respect to the size of the dishes. (Since when are the dishes huge in France? Is this part of the Americanization of France? Huge dishes are REALLY a danger here because the food is so delicious that discipline is hopeless. Main courses: I had a leg of lamb roasted over a fire. Another member of our group had a large beef steak, also prepared on a grill. These were from the Euro 21 menu. The dishes on the cheaper menu were less interesting. One of our group had lasanga, which she said was delicious. The only dish that was not very good was kebabs of chicken. That dish seemed vey bland. I should mention that the side dishes were very tasty as well. They included roasted potatoes, and timble of vegetables. Desserts: not a large choice in the formule. I had a very good tiramisu; my wife had a lemon meringue pie. It seems surprising to me that the reviews of this restaurant have been bumpy, at best. Maybe it is due to the fact that the restaurant now has new management, a French-Israeli family, who seem to have decided to make a big success of the restaurant. All I can say is that I thought that La Toscana is great and i would happily go there again--and again. P.S. This does NOT seem to be fundamentally an Italian restaurant.
Nous avions fréquenté cette pizzeria en couple et avions gardé un bon souvenir. Nous y sommes retournés en famille (anniversaire en décembre).Eh ! Bien ! L’essai est transformé : la qualité des produits, la variété des plats commandés (pizzas, épaule d’agneau, fritto misto entre autres) a permis d’apprécier les qualités de préparation.La terrasse baignée de soleil et l’amabilité du personnel nous ont permis de passer un bon moment.Comptez 50€ par personne pour un repas complet et varié.
