Mcconkey's Jungle Shack - EDISTO ISLAND

After approximately 15 minutes, two gentlemen arrived and were seated. We watched as they received their menus, drinks, and even placed their orders—all while we were still waiting for service. I understand that staffing shortages can be a challenge these days, but with so few customers in the restaurant, it shouldn't have been an issue. Eventually, I stood up and told them, “Thank you, but since we can't get waited on, enjoy your night,” and we decided to leave. The waitress then apologized, explaining that she was the only one working and that they were short-staffed. While I can empathize with the situation, I would expect better service when the restaurant isn’t busy. Our visit was on November 17, 2021.

This is a fantastic little restaurant! We visited on New Year's Day and were concerned about potential wait times. However, with a party of seven, we were seated right away. They offer a variety of seating options for both small and large groups, and you can choose between indoor and outdoor dining. The service was excellent; we were greeted promptly, and our server was attentive throughout our meal. The food was tasty too. While I felt some dishes were a bit on the pricey side, there were plenty of choices to suit everyone's tastes. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

My entire family had a great time at this charming beach restaurant. I was thrilled to discover a gluten-free burger option, and when I ordered the bun, the staff kindly checked if I had any allergies. That was really thoughtful of them. The burger was delicious, and my family also enjoyed wings, a fried flounder sandwich, and a cheese quesadilla. Our server was incredibly friendly and even gave us some recommendations for things to do while we were in town. Overall, I’m very satisfied with our experience at McConkeys!

The food was good but not excellent. I had what was supposed to be the best burger on the island but I have eaten many burgers that are better than the one from McConkey's. On the plus side the chili on the burger really good. My son had the shtimp basket and said it was nothing special. The cocktails were uninspired. My wife had the fish tacos and enjoyed them. Other customers that entered after us were served before us. This place is tiny and seating is very crowded. The artwork on the tables by local artists is kind of neat if you like that sort of thing. When we return to Edisto, McConkey's is not on our short list of places to eat.

Went twice in one afternoon. First for a cocktail and then later for dinner. It definitely isn't a fancy place, but pleasant. I had the blackened fish tacos while my husband had the same fish in a cobb salad. Both extremely yummy. However, my husband's drink was way too strong and he didn't finish it.
