Kinaree Thai - Courtenay

We walked in the door at 8:15 pm and were greeted by a gentleman who promptly looked at his watch walked over and said "Kitchen closes at 8:30, restaurant at 9:00." We sat down glanced at each other and left, not eager to spend our money here after being made to feel so unwelcome. I thought a restaurant was supposed to be welcoming, but this guy seemed like he hated being there. There may not be be a lot of Thai restaurants here, but the market for a friendly, well made, Thai food truck is definitely available. :)

I have eaten at this restaurant in the past and vowed I would not eat here again but I had a yearning for Thai food and because there is not another Thai restaurant in our fair city I thought I would give it another try. I was very disappointed! we ordered yellow curry with chicken and noticed immediately that there was maybe 4 small pieces of chicken in it, the flavour was bland yet too sweet. Additionally, we had chicken satay and again we were shocked at the small portion size. we also ordered Pad Thai and one of our party members could not eat more than one bite of it as he thought it tasted like ketchup. we asked for our meal at medium spiciness but there was no heat at all. All in all we were entirely let down by our Thai food experience in the Comox Valley.

We all liked the sauces but found very little chicken and beef in dishes. The rice was good but left feeling very hungry.

This was our first visit and my wife and I ordered different dishes and we both requested medium heat as that is what we usually order when eating Thai. While I was happy with my order my wife's dish was way more than medium. She tried as best she could to eat it but unfortunately had to give up. I noticed another review where they had the same experience so beware! Order mild if you are used to medium and medium if you wish hot.

Our monthly luncheon was at the Kinaree last week.I did not do the ordering as i am not versed in Thai food.We had 6 dishes,from Seafood,Poultry and Noodles.No complaints from anyone,The food was delicious and not too spicey.I would go back more often,but my wife is not a fan of Thai dining.Must wait another 4 months till it is my turn once again.
