Carluccio's Cardiff Mermaid Quay

Beautiful people who served very beautiful Italian cuisine! not to mention the location with a pleasant view of the sea and the bay.

The food was lovely but slightly overpriced. It was a busy Saturday evening and staff were not always attentive. However the main reason for only 3 stars is the dining experience was not relaxed. The staff station is in middle of an acoustically loud restaurant and they were flying around. The atmosphere gave the impression of a canteen service as opposed to a relaxed and pricey restaurant. Definitely wouldnt go for a relaxing meal there but probably fine for coffee and catch up type meeting.

A lovely atmosphere really clean, and lovely staff. A large table of us ordered a number of dishes and all in all everyone was happy. Apart from the fellow that plumped for Lasagne. The restaurant welcomes children and all of the children seemed to have a lovely time. Its a bit of a tight squeeze in the colder months because they are unable to open the doors to their outdoor dining area. Again in the colder months I would advise sitting down towards the back as it is very cold when the door is opened.

Went for lunch with my family, have to say the 2 star rating is not for the food or the server who helped us. The two star review is for the manager on duty, he was crowding our server, ordering her about and generally micro managing her. His attitude and manner was aggressive, he was throwing bottles in the recycling bins and generally bringing attention to himself in a loud and obnoxious way. So clearly he had issues that day but instead of taking a 10 minute time out he instead took it out on a server and gave us a show we didn't appreciate. We checked that the server was okay because quite frankly he was completely invading her space. So if you want to watch someone have a temper tantrum and constantly walk back and forth go there the food was great. For us, with a 10 year old we didn't much appreciate it. BTW I have been a manager for 25 years, and would never treat staff like that.

Food nice but a few things to be aware of... 1. The service charge is added to the bill we ended up with a service charge of almost £50 and the service was passable at best. 2. It is a chain restaurant; we all enjoyed our food but the portions weren't very big and 3. Limoncello is £5.95 extortionate. We won't be returning.
