Bidrage med feedbackWhat a jewel of a real Mexican restaurant of Emy's place. We drove the street looking for a place where the color of the establishment caught my eye, so we stopped. I thought the prices were a bit high, but after eating and let me tell you that the amount of food and taste made for the bill. Another thing to share was that their flour and corn tortillas are made some very large. While we ate our late lunch, an older woman played guitar and sang to those in the restaurant.
We were visiting from out of state. When we travel we like to try smaller local restaraunts and we were not disappointed at all. Though there was a bit if a language barrier as we do not speak Spanish . However, our waiter tried his heart out to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible and that our orders were accurate he did bring in some help from another employee who did speak English after a while . We all received some Fideo soup prior to our meal which was AMAZING!!! Even our picky youngest child loved it. Evryone enjoyed everything that was ordered and received AND that picky youngest child, she ate her little piece of cake and was eyeballing my piece too! yup she got it . The service was fantastic Food was Great- I can't say enough good things about this place. It doesnt look like much from the outside we were reconsidering as we drive up , but dont let that discourage you or you will miss out on meeting some great people and a really great authentic meal. I've seen post complaining of the prices but we didn't find any issues with the prices. However, again, we are from out of state and were in the area visiting the zoo so we are not familiar with local pricing.
I admit I was a little skeptical of this place when I was pulling in to the parking lot, but my friend suggested it to me and by god I was going to eat here. The inside is quaint and serviceable, nothing too flashy. We had our orders taken and some chips and salsa brought to us. The salsa was surprisingly spicy too, which was pretty nice. A little while later we were served fideo, which I thought was outstanding. A short while later I got my enchiladas monterrey and my rather large bowl of menudo. The enchiladas were hands down the best I've ever had in my life. The chicken inside them was perfectly cooked, the sauce was not overpowering, and overall it was a wonderful marriage of flavors. The menudo was great as well. Not overly spicy and really flavorful. They also give you some corn tortillas and other things to construct your own little tacos with the menudo. To wrap this meal up they serve you s piece of tres leches cake and I could not think of a better way to conclude the meal. Overall this restaurant is a wonderful gem of Brownsville and I recommend it to anyone who wants good Mexican food.
This is a charming little spot for breakfast, with generous portions and always fresh, made-to-order food. The tortillas, both flour and corn, are handmade. The coffee is served hot and fresh, and the salsas are delicious. I haven't had a chance to try the lunch and dinner menu yet, but I look forward to it in the near future. I would have given a fifth star, but I couldn't because our waitress had a bit of an attitude. While the service was good, it would have been nicer if she had been more welcoming, as we felt a bit like we were inconveniencing her.
Before I even walked through the door, I felt a warm, homely atmosphere. The beautiful plants and small terrace reminded me of my grandmother's house. The dining room is charming, with a lovely mix of colors and vibrant artwork. I ordered the nachos, and they were fantastic! I struggled to finish them, but I pushed through! The staff was incredibly patient and polite, so I decided to treat myself to dessert afterward.
