Izakaya Amu - Boulder

Great food, had the Shabu Shabu and the Unagi. Quite authentic and quite tasty. Prices are somewhat high, but the quality is apparent!

Disappointing experience. We arrived and the hostess/server asked us “how she could help us”, which set a bad tone from the start. She was otherwise friendly, but delivered a wrong item to our table. When we mentioned it, she laughed it off and kept it on our bill (we did eat it, to be fair). All of this could be easily overlooked but unfortunately, the food just wasn’t good. We have eaten at hundreds of Japanese restaurants including many izakaya all over North America and Japan, and I’m not sure how this place gets the good reviews it does. We all agreed there wasn’t a single thing that was “good” and a few items that weren’t good at all. We left and had dinner elsewhere. We won’t be back.

We came as a family of 4 and the meal took 2 hours. Very slow service. The table next to us ended up asking to box the food up as they had to go and it was taking too long. The server was rushed off her feet and trying her best so I don’t blame her. The manager clearly needs to hire more staff.Tasty food, but don’t come hungry…

Great food and great staff 4 star for atmosphere as is strong, but could use a bit of updating.

Used to be awesome when it was the only game in town but it's very very expensive and there are other places in boulder serving the same quality of fish and izakaya food.
