The Range Cafe - York

Hello, we occasionally stop by this restaurant when we are in the area. We usually come around midday for hot drinks and toasted currant teacakes. Most of the time, we are served promptly with our drinks and the food follows shortly after. Overall, we have found it to be good value, clean, and well-kept.

My partner and I were out shopping at The Range when we decided to take a break and have some coffee and cake. Unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant experience. The air conditioning seemed to be malfunctioning, making the store uncomfortably hot. Despite a couple of tables having fans, it was still sweltering. We visited on a Sunday and there were only two staff members working. It was disappointing to see that at least 8 tables had not been cleared, leaving the place looking messy. The queue at the counter was long because one of the staff was struggling to remove a stuck pizza from the oven. The service was slow and not very friendly. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we will not be returning.

The restaurant has undergone a lovely renovation, creating a charming setting. The staff are helpful and friendly. I ordered a cheese and ham toastie, which came with a side of a small salad. The food was fresh and delicious. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning. They tried to compensate by placing fans on some tables, but addressing the issue would certainly attract more customers, as everything else is well organized.

Usually pop in to the Range café for a coffee and cake whilst shopping in the area. Very basic food range, sandwiches on white bread, toasted teacakes. However, the service is good and staff friendly.

Visited the store today for a couple of necessary bits. Yes we are having a warm spell but nothing was preparing us for the unbearable, unacceptable conditions in the shop!!!. I only needed a few items and usual the shop has everything and this I cannot fault, but after 10 mins I had to sit down and have a cold drink before I even attempted to take my few items to the checkout!!. I thought I was going to pass out and the sweat was dripping of customers and staff alike. I commented to a staff member how hot it was and she actually had wet hair. She said that there air conditioning ws broken and they had no idea when it would be fixed. The staff in the cafe were spot on and got us a fan for when we had our drink. No wonder there were hardly any customers in there!!. We then left straight away and the relief to get out of the doors was something else. It felt distinctly chilly outside thank god. Now this not so great review is not aimed at the staff as they were amazing and helpful but that the company would expect them to work in those conditions was something else!!. If we could of bared it we would of spent more time and bought more stuff but I'm sorry I got the bare essentials and got myself out of there ASAP! . Sort out the air conditioning Range as you are letting your staff down!! They, however, are keeping your business going under ridiculous conditions. Shame on you :
