The Lion Inn - York

Visited on bank holiday Monday, and we always wonder why we leave it so long between visits. Good quality food, excellent menu. Both children loved their meals, great atmosphere inside of the pub, staff excellent, overall we had a lovely lunch!

Friendly staff. Great foo served all day. Epic portions! Fantastic views. Dog friendly with 2 x real fires. Not sure if I’ve got any room left for dessert!

We drove up the car park was full, overflow car park was starting to fear the worst. It was very busy, but we managed to find a table, I was told the wait for food was 30 minutes, considering how busy it was I thought that was really good, we ordered 2 pork roasts the food was with us within 15 minutes at the most. The food was excellent! A big pub that swallowed up load of people with ease, great service, friendly customers, dog friendly in a really nice old building.

What a lovely friendly place. We passed by the day before and thought “how does that place survive all the way out here”. The next day we decided to venture back and try out for lunch first checking dogs were allowed. We set off thinking we would be the only customers. How wrong could we have been. The car park was busy and on entering the pub was buzzing with customers. We had a table by the bar with our two dogs. Deciding on having a sandwich for main, we thought it ok to have a starter. Beware the portions! I had mozzarella sticks with chilli sauce absolutely delicious. Husband had mushrooms with ciabatta he is still raving about it. Our sandwiches arrived. OMG they should be described as a roast dinner in a sandwich. I had hot beef, my husband hot pork. Both come with chips/side salad and gravy. Needless to say our eyes had been bigger than our bellies and we were provided with takeaway boxes. Service was exceptionally friendly and efficient and landlady more than happy to stop and chat even though pub was full but all the time keeping track of customers and service. My husband rated The Lion as the best pub he has been in he is 74 so has been to a few! If we are ever back that way again we will certainly return perhaps even staying as accommodation is also available.

Absolutely stunning place and ambiance sat on a lovely table in the very spacious restaurant service was super meeting our every need The portions are huge so go small if you have a smaller appetite Food was amazing other than my overcooked and cold chips when this was mentioned at paying the bill the adorable friendly and empathetic Eve took drink off the bill for our troubles ! Will be back soon
