Bidrage med feedbackThe beer was excellent, one of the best pints I've had, and the staff was incredibly attentive. The venue was amazing.
My husband and I stayed at Lady Anne Middleton's hotel for three nights and had dinner two of those nights at their restaurant. The first night, we had another couple join us and we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality and price. Because it was so good, we chose to have our dinner there another night and the quality was consistent.
Ate here last night with my girlfriend, absolutely brilliant dining experience. Ballsy food without being ridiculous, clearly produced by a chef who really understands and respects their ingredients with interesting wine pairings to match. Service was very good also, lovely waitress who explained each dish without being overbearing. A few friends have mentioned you losing the taster menu, please don't as I intend to return!
Looking for a last minute dinner table for six in York on a Saturday night does not give you many options. So when I came across availability at Chaplin's my first thought was why are they not busy? Well the answer is nothing to do with food quality, service or atmosphere. Finding the hotel is not easy as they are tucked away off some of the less well know streets of York. Don't use theost code location for car parking look for Cromwell street which is the rear of the hotel as there is access to the off road hotel car park but also on street parking. The entrance to the resturant is through the hotel reception and the walk from the car park is flat unless you come in off the street when the bank is steep. The front entrance has a similar issue and despite the hotel providing ramps on a cold damp November night access is still tricky. Don't let this put you off as once inside the welcome was warm and we were guided to our table buy Megan our waitress for the evening. She was smrtly turned out and well informed on the menu and drinks range. The food is English al La carte based and as such don't expect huge portions. The quality is excellent and very well presented with care and attention to detail. Nice touch the white gloves worn by the servers picked up by my mature in laws. That said the atmosphere is not stuffy and sufficiently modern that my 18 year old rugby playing son and girlfriend enjoyed it so much they were late leaving us for a party in town they were attending. Range if food not huge so might be worth checking the menus before you book if you are a picky eater. Cost wise on a parr with most restaurants providing food of this quality. Starters little expensive main courses good value deserts mixed. My creme brulé was excellent and a good sized portion my sons chocolate brownie whilst tasty was a very small portion. Wine list was good and well priced reasonable bottle of southern hemisphere merlot £14.99. Finished off with coffee in the lounge on comfortable chairs and not rushed for the cheque but continued to revice attentive service. Overall a good find for us that I will use again as booking easy through the open table website and a good all round performance that provided us with a very pleasant evening.
I had a great experience with the service, food, and atmosphere at this restaurant while staying at the hotel. I would definitely eat here again if I stayed there in the future.
