Bidrage med feedbackWe dropped into Wallace Hotel (pub) off the Western Highway heading to Ballarat. We just wanted a beer and wine which we could have in the public bar near the fire but when i saw the fire place in the dining room that was the place for us. The dining room was huge i loved the decor, outside garden would be wonderful in warmer weather. The sign read dining all day or you could order scones jam cream with coffee or tea. Cant comment on food but i am sure it would be delicious. We spent half hour there by the fire before heading home. Perfect thing to do on a winter saturday. Support Ausdie Pubs.
To be fair, this is our local but we love this place. We regularly come here on Sunday for an afternoon drink when the live music is on or often order takeaway pizzas on a lazy night. The pizzas are fresh and delicious. The service is always excellent. Now and then we pop in for dinner. My favourite is salt and pepper squid with salad but all the food is just good, honest, fresh, tasty pub fare. The front bar dining area has beautifully restored heritage elements and a lovely log fire. The back gardens are just stunning and very French inspired. I love sitting out there in the summer! Just a great country pub in Central Victoria!
Food was excellent. Very pleasant atmosphere. Service was excellent. A very large room that is not noisey. Open fire added to the comfort. Looking forward to another visit.
Our family was enjoying a long weekend at the fabulous "Old Wallace Shop Bed & Breakfast" when we decided to go for dinner at The Wallace Hotel predominantly because it was just across the road.*** [Too Many Antlers, Personally Gave Me the Creeps]:The Hotel is divided into various sections each with a slightly different layout. The main entrance will lead you into a small dining area that was completely empty the weekend of our visit. A fireplace & bookshelf seem a nice touch & large front windows provide a view of the main carriageway. Leading through a narrow space will take you into the Bar that is fairly traditional with wood panelling, exposed bricks & a picture of the Queen on the wall. - Then there was the Bistro. 1970's styled clear plastic chairs, wooden beams & poles painted silver, black & white swirly type wallpaper with woman's faces, ladder back chairs with padded seats & all types of antlers mixed together resulting in an almost nauseating effect.[Staff & Service]:Interaction with staff was minimal & except for being shown to our table & receiving our meals there was no further contact with them. Whilst not outwardly rude, we certainly were not made to feel welcome. It was the same regarding the level of service. As you order your meals at the counter & retrieve your own drinks there really is no level of service per se.****[Average Meals, average quality & somewhat overpriced]:The entrée serve of Garlic Bread presented as four [4] thinly sliced triangles of bread to share between the three [3] of us. Oh for the days when decent Pub Fare would ensure a thick, chunky garlic bread that was at least eight pieces in length. - Crumbed Sausages with Mash Potatoes & Gravy. My son described the sausages as just "ok" being let down by the excessive amount of crumbs that he said was a "bit overpowering". He thoroughly like the Mash & Gravy however. Pork Belly Served with Mash Potatoes, Peas & Gravy: My husband felt that the Pork with Apple was quite nice & overall the dish was not 'too bad' but he wouldn't be in a hurry to order it again.Steak with Chips, Salad & Pepper sauce: Not the best quality meat it was stringy & gristly resulting in most of it ending up half chewed on my plate. *** [Summary] ***All things considered, the Wallace Hotel unfortunately failed to impress. The Meals were not the best quality & for what we received, overpriced. The furnishings were not the most comfortable & the ambiance certainly didn't lend itself to us wanting to hang around once we had finished eating. Consequently in this instance we are not able to recommend this venue to our fellow travellers.Thank you for reading this review, we hope that it has been helpful.
I haven't gone past the calamari, YUM, family members have raved about other dishes on the extensive menu.Cosy in winter with lovely wood fire and just as nice in summer where the kids have a place to romp around also easy parking. A great place to meet just for a drink and chat but always enticed by good food.
