Bidrage med feedbackThis was the worst experience. Having booked private dining for our family to celebrate my wife’s 80th Birthday we were told, when we arrived, that that area had been given to another larger group and that a table had been laid for us in the main dining area. Even though we showed the lady manager written confirmation of our original booking she would not change us around. Having, reluctantly accepted the change, we then waited 40 minutes before someone came to take our order for drinks. This order included a bottle of Champagne which was then taken all round the restaurant before being brought to us. Obviously a lack of communication between the staff. The food when it finally arrived was partly okay but mostly poor quality. I have e-mailed the George twice since then but have yet to receive the courtesy of a response. Sums up the venue really. Do not go there for a special occasion, treat it as a very average pub.
Nice atmosphere, quite classy inside. Not cheap, drinks are way above Isle of Wight average and higher than parts of London. £7.50 for a pint of ale!!! Staff are friendly and helpful.
On arrival the head of house was quite rude, didn’t really speak just complained about the computer being slow, wasn’t very welcoming, we had booked a table outside but it had rained in the day so we sat behind the glass near the outside bar, we ordered sirloin steak it was extremely dry and tough, we will not be returning as it was very expensive for what you get. The upkeep on the building and gardens are very rundown, makes it look very untidy, very disappointing.
I have dined at The George for lunch several times, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the menu selection, as the starters were limited and the main courses were just okay. The pasta with prawns and chili was good, but the seafood platter for two was expensive. While it looked impressive on ice, the excessive amount of ice caused most of the fish to be swimming in water. On a positive note, the staff acknowledged the issue and removed the platter from our bill, which was appreciated. Overall, it was not a great dining experience and I have had better elsewhere. I will be looking for alternative dining options next time I visit Yarmouth.
We visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy a few drinks and a late lunch in the garden with beautiful sea views. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were disappointed to find a sign at the gate stating that bookings were required for the garden area. Despite there being plenty of available tables, we were turned away due to staff shortages. We offered to just grab our own drinks at the bar, but were informed that table service was mandatory and we were not allowed to visit the bar. Fortunately, we found a better experience at the Bugle across the road, where we were able to get our drinks at the bar and enjoy delicious food. I would recommend giving the overpriced and understaffed George a pass.
