Here's the low-down: House of Shah is absolutely amazing, from the moment of stepping through the doors you are immediately greeted by smells of distant lands and smiles of happy, warm staff. When it's time to belly up to the register (it's counter service), make sure to ask for Sal or his beautiful wife Juliana. He'll gladly take you on a tour of the menu. Finding out what you like and suggesting from their array of dishes to choose from to find your perfect meal. When it's time to find a seat you choose from takeout, seated inside, or to enjoy the beautiful weather on House of Shah's intimate patio overlooking downtown Woodland. While you can't go wrong with any choice on the menu, I ordered the Sirloin kebob while my wife ordered the Chicken kebob. (a tough decision since everything on the menu is delicious) Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly, served with salad, rice, naan and two dipping sauces. (If you want the secret sauce, you'll have to ask about the jalapeno Serrano garlic sauce) After mopping my plate clean with naan(my wife easily had left-overs) we considered dessert. Afghan ice cream sundae. Vanilla ice cream topped with pistachios and rice noodles, ending with sweet cream and rose water. While exiting and once again, receiving a warm goodbye, we took a lap around downtown woodland before heading back to Sacramento.
Fantastic food. Excellent prices. Friendly owner and staff. My fave is the chicken wrap salad. Try it! You will love it.
Been getting the Sirloin plate and I swear it gets better every time! Highly recommended. They have a Great staff and killer food!
Husband and I have been wanting to try House of Shah since it opened and it did not disappoint! Everything was made from fresh ingredients and delicious. The service was very friendly, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and lovely. The Jala dessert is one of the best things I've ever eaten! I can't wait to go back!
If you 're like me, the typical 'let 's eat out ' foods that we have access to, like Italian, Mexican, Thai or Indian can become choices that fall short of motivating you to get dressed and jump in the car. Sometimes you just can 't get excited, and you wind up staying at home to eat left overs or a bowl of soup. So, there I was...hungry and thinking about lunch when Facebook tells me about House of Shah-Woodland. Afghani food? Really?! I know that food! The idea of piquant and savory, coupled with spice combinations rarely seen in combination elsewhere, but richly rewarding to your taste buds made me grab up my significant other, and get there most ricky-tick. And they did not disappoint. Serving both traditional and non-traditional recipes, with something for everyone, to include spectacular vegetarian choices... know that the flavors and presentation of the food, the casual seating environment along with an excellent staff will satisfy your tummy, your wallet, and leave you humming happily. We intend to go back again...and soon.
