Sampan Chinese - Winston Salem

Authentic chinese (cantonese) food can be found on their menu. For lunar new year, we ordered youngzhou chowfan (house special fried rice), pipa tofu (tofu stuffed with shrimp), beef and broccoli, salt and pepper squid, fried dumplings, and veggie spring rolls. We wanted to get stuffed eggplants, but they did not have eggplants available. Overall, the food does not compare to my mom's homecooking, but it is a good alternative being in WS.

Great Chinese food for those who like the beef and broccoli kind of dishes but they also have more authentic meals. Very friendly and clean. Will definitely go back?

Lately, I've been in the mood for Asian cuisine and decided to give Sampan a try. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed the lighting was quite dim, which felt a bit odd, but I was eager to enjoy my meal. The host also served as our waitress, which was a little unusual. After being seated, I went to the restroom before placing my order. The bathroom was clean, though there was a trash can lid left on the sink. When I returned to my table, I decided to order the lunch garlic chicken along with an egg roll. The egg roll arrived first, followed shortly by my meal, which was hot and freshly prepared. Everything was delicious, and I could really taste the freshness of the ingredients. Despite the host juggling multiple roles, the service was prompt and attentive. Overall, I would definitely return to Sampan in the future. The food has a distinct flavor that sets it apart from typical Chinese restaurants, and it's reasonably priced.

Sandy and her team serve the finest Chinese food in Winston Salem. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, making it a wonderful place to dine in. The portion sizes are generous whether you choose to eat in or take out. I highly recommend this restaurant and have been a loyal customer for decades.

What can I say other than that Sandy is amazing? If you find yourself in Winston, this unpretentious restaurant will truly impress you. Sampan is a cozy, softly lit venue with gentle background music, and it has been a beloved staple in the area for over 25 years! It’s a real treat. Be sure to stop by for some lunch specials, authentic Asian dishes, or the comforting wonton soup (which features a thin noodle wrapping around the dumplings, not a thick one). Delicious!
