Smitty's - Winnipeg

Smitty's was our pre Bombers Friday night season opener game dinner choice. We were meeting friends we hadn't seen in a while, and the place was within walking distance from our hotel. Plus it had some gluten-free options. I hadn't been to a Smitty's in over a decade, so the offerings were slightly different than I remembered, but the menu still looked familiar. I chose a green salad with salmon. My companions had hot entrées, and the three who live in Winnipeg knew their favourites. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful; he even told us about the complimentary shuttle bus to the game. My salad was better than I expected. My partner could not finish his Parmesan chicken, finding it dry and not tasty. He is not picky when it comes to food... But everyone else was satisfied with their dinner. Smitty's is after all, Smitty's. Average food at affordable prices. Getting the bus to the game was a bonus!

I really loved our meal at Smitty"s. At first it seemed like a low end restaurant but when entering it had a homey atmosphere. The staff are very courteous, the meal was affordable, plenty to eat and cooked to perfection. Even the vegetables were super and not over cooked. I will definitely be back to this one in August.

While the food has mostly been good, other problems exist. Senior meals are offered until 6pm. While we arrived before 6, the waitress did not come to our table until 6:12. Because of this out senior's meal was not longer offered (Hawaiian Chicken). So for two dollars more we had to choose another meal and did not get coffee, salad, and desert. They would not honor a special offer sold to us from another Smittly's location in Winnipeg even though it was sold to us a good at any Smitty's location. However if you like deafening rock music in a bar scene, this is THE place.
