The Westgate - Winchester

We had another fantastic experience at The Winchester. My husband and I visited during tapas night and the food was incredible. The staff were extremely welcoming and we were very impressed. We heard they host different themed nights and the next one is French cuisine. If we weren't so far away, we would definitely return for that. I highly recommend The Winchester for a stay in Winchester or for dining out. We can't wait to come back again soon.

I went to the Westgate with a friend who has been unwell, hoping to cheer them up. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling upset and angry. Despite the restaurant being empty, our food took nearly an hour to arrive. When it finally did, it was burnt and cold. We sent it back expecting a recook, but it was just reheated and sent back out to us. When we requested to speak to the manager, he seemed more interested in flirting with a waitress than addressing our concerns. He was dismissive and unapologetic, claiming my friend's illness was not his problem and lying about the food being recooked. When we asked for a refund and mentioned we would not be returning, he refused and only offered us 10% off our next visit. This was unacceptable to us, and he became angry and disrespectful towards us. We paid our bill reluctantly and left, feeling disrespected and unappreciated. I understand that people have bad days, but this level of service was completely unacceptable.

Popped in on a freezing cold Sunday afternoon and were served by a very welcoming barman and sat by a lovely warm fire. The pub is located and accessed on a corner and the bar stretches from left to right. The wood flooring gently slopes up to the left. Nicely decorated with character and I believe rooms are also available.

I had a great stay at the Westgate. I used the pub's booking tool, which was cheaper than booking through dot com. The breakfast was of good quality. My room on the 2nd floor had a view of the road, but I didn't hear any traffic noise at night. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Called in with a number of friends just for a drink. We were made most welcome. Staff accommodated our music requests as well. Helped to make the night special for us. Strange to find an old well in one of the ladies loos but that added to the enjoyment of the evening!!!!!!
