Penny Royal Chicken - Whittier

Had a few minutes to spend with the wife in Whittier. We decided to give this place a shot. It's a pop up inside a reception space designed for weddings and banquets. It's big and fancy looking, but don't be put off by the incongruous setting. I'll say it quickly, this is the BEST CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH I've had in a very long time. It's simple, a crispy fried fillet, a buttery, lightly sweet brioche bun, pickles, coleslaw, typical right? NAW. This thing is BOMB. Maybe it's just fresh quality ingredients, maybe the seasoning has Soylent green... Idunno. Go try it for yourself. I wish I'd taken a picture.

This place had a great sandwhich! I've tried chicken at a few places in Whittier and so far, I enjoy the chicken here most. The fries were perfectly salted and paired well with the garlic ranch sauce.Know that there is only one person working here.It's inconspicuous, it's the very next building to the right of Auntie's Bakery and Cafe.

A really yummy pop up! Gotta try it out! I got the spicy chicken sandwich combo with fries and a lemonade. Sandwich was crazy saucy with this cheesy tasting ranch. I ended up dipping my fries in it. Chicken was cooked perfectly and was still crispy, despite it drowning in sauce. Love the thicker cut fries! Crispy outside and fluffy inside. And lemonade goes perfect with the meal. At first, i thought it was just Minute Maid lemonade, but I feel like there's a slight tropical punch to it? I also found out that they use canola oil, instead of the usual peanut. Thank you, Penny Royal, for being considerate to those who have nut allergies. I can now finally show my bf a hot chicken sandwich place that is nut-free! I will be back!

Nope. Don 't go here. This place is too weird. No one in the place. It doubles as an event venue. The food was awful. Soggy with sauce and bad quality chicken. I took one bite and got a weird feeling and tossed it out. When there 's no customers, who knows how long the food has been sitting there in the fridges. No thank you.

This place is great! You gotta check it out. It's a bit hidden, but it's right next to Auntie's. Great chicken and fries and the place is very nice inside. Do them a favor and pack the place because they got great food.
