Halibut King - Whitby

After enjoying three great meals at a fish and chip restaurant, we excitedly recommended it to our friends, only to be disappointed by our most recent visit. The portions went from two pieces of fish cut nice and thick to a single thin piece mostly covered in batter and greasy. Even the chips were overly greasy. Both my husband and I felt uncomfortably full after the meal. We were embarrassed when our friends, who went before us, described their meal as "pretty thin." The inconsistency in quality at this fish and chip store is disappointing. It's possible that COVID cutbacks have affected their standards, but we will be reluctant to return, possibly for good.

I have not found a fish and chips restaurant in the Durham Region that compares to this one. The portions are generous, the batter is light and crispy without being greasy, and the fries are delicious. After trying nearly every fish and chips spot in Durham, I can confidently say that this is the best one I have been to.

May 8 2018 Visited Halibut King Fish and chip Restaurant on 1123 Dundas E. Whitby ON. with a Senior buddy. The food and service was excellent! My friend had 2 large TASTY pieces of Halibut and lots of fries with a diet Pepsi all for $17. I had a large piece of Tasty Haddock plus the house salad and a Lemon water drink all for $13. BEST WISHES!

My wife and I got the Halibut Meal for Two special and it was fantastic! We each got 2 pieces of fish and shared a box of fries. The fish was fried beautifully and the batter was crunchy and not too thick. The fries were good and were not soggy. We used to go to another fish place but they closed down so we tried here. We were not disappointed. We will most definitely be returning.
