Gengy's Whangarei

Awesome staff, worked really hard even under pressure as there was a lot of orders and a bit of confusion with order numbers (some doubling up in the beginning that was sorted) . But not too stressful for them! Food was nice, and plenty of meat choice. Chef's understanding and pleasant. Not a lot of ice cream choice and the self serve was a little makeshift? But pancake recipe absolutely delicious. Seating was well set up so it didn't feel claustrophobic. Clean and spacious toilets. Overall a lovely night.

The only problem with this place is that I ate too much. The food was fantastic. Be eather though, get small portions so you can try more things. Will definitely be returning!

Love Gengys. Staff are friendly. Food is good. Went last year to check it out. Then my family took me again for my birthday (only $1 for birthdays! . And I’ve come back again haha. Definitely beats doing a maccas run!

Really good family atmosphere. Staff were really helpful and showed me how it works. You get to pick your own food and they cook it for you. But make sure you know what table number and meal number your meal is assigned to just in case they get really busy. Yummy food. My advice would be to chose the lamb (it is more tender than beef) and it’s all the same price so go for the best. I went to a Mongolian BBQ further south and it cost about $24 but everything has gotten more expensive so $38 here isn’t to bad especially considering it is all you can eat. Fun fact: Mongolian BBQ buffet is so named because apparently after battle Genghis Khan and his troops put their metal shields over a fire and cooked local food they had gathered on them.

Having had a family birthday, we opted to attend Gengys. We arrived at opening and once upon being seated we set right into it. The options of various meats and seafood was amazing. Endless refills if you are able. The selections of oils and dressing to tantalize anyone's taste buds. Side dishes of garlic potatoes, honey kumara, cheesy cauli/broccoli, chips and lovely salads and pancake with icecream, caramel/chocolate/maple syrup. We highly recommend you bring your family to this Restuarant to celebrate family events.
