I took the train from NYC to Westbrook and waited here to be picked up at the Highliner as it is really just a train stop with no station, but the Highliner is right next door. The bartender was friendly and made me a very large aperol spritz (it came in a tall glass) and I could tell that everyone else was a local here to watch sports. Not being a local I felt a bit out of place but not in an intimidating or unwelcoming way. A fine spot to wait for a train, but not somewhere I'd probably go unless I was a local. Note: Cash Only but there is an ATM on site
A Saturday afternoon and about 6 people inside. I walked in with my service dog and was instantly told dogs were not allowed by the bartender. My dog was properly identified and wearing a vest and my sister in law informed the bartender that he was a service dog. The bartender looked right at us, rolled his eyes, made a face and shook his head. Absolutely appalling behavior not to mentioned illegal. Our group of five walked right out. Will never return.
Let’s get real this is what interstate travel by rail is all about. Paying homage to the late New York New Haven Hartford RailRoad Co., this cozy and unassuming bar brings the best of the midpoint between New York City and Boston with affordable cocktails, wood burning stove in a well preserved train station. Jell O shots? They got em. Incredibly clean with a friendly staff to match.
Nice little out of the way place. Everyone was so nice!
