Bidrage med feedbackDawaat is a regular curry house for my partner and me and our friends. we think eating is wonderful and the service excellent and friendly. definitely recommend when they are looking for a place to eat and relax delicious curry. if they ask a frightening to be stupidly hot to their court.
Unfortunately things have gone downhill a bit since I last went to Daawat. The curries are rather thin, flavor is ok but not quite what they could be. The breads are good, think and tasty. They really need to bring up their standards a bit, and a bit more heating would be nice.
Visited Good Friday. A couple were finishing their meal. Nobody else around. Ordered take-a-ways. No indication on time but as I said nobody else waiting. Fifty minutes later the food arrived. No apologies from the chef. The only support person there was extremely embarrassed. On getting home the Lamb Saag had tandoor mince on a skewer. Never experienced this before. Even in India you get chunks of meat even if goat is the main ingredient. Not here. The peshwari man would have to be the worst I have had in New Zealand. Very expensive for what we got. Given the other choices in Johnsonville will never go here again.
Worst curry we have ever had. All three dishes were the same brown, sweet tomato sauce. No fresh ingredients. Barely any spices. Potato dish had no potatoes in it. Naan bread was like dry toast and was shop bought. Staff seemed upset to have to serve this food. We were too polite to just walk out.
We went there for a birthday dinner and guess what we were the only there for roughly 2hours. One man takes orders, serves and cook. Nothing wrong in one man show service was EXCELLENT but he's not a chef. There was nothing good about food from flavours to looks. Daal Makhni was weirdly tangy, Chilli Chicken was tomato puree mixed with chicken no veggies, Kadhai Chicken and Daal Makhni had same taste. Chicken Lababdaar was the only one we all liked. It was a Saturday night, i am surprised and not sure how the business is surviving.
