Coene's Eatery - Wellington

We were on a Lord of the Rings tour and this is where our guide took us for lunch. I had some excellent fish and chips, my wife had the crispy pork belly tacos and plena chips. Everything was very good! Highly recommend this place that is right on the water overlooking a marina with sailboats!

Unfortunately, positives and ‘not so’ with our Brunch experience. Fantastic location and of course views over the Harbour while you’re dining is always enjoyable! FOOD: My Salmon Eggs Benedict arrived (surprisingly) without hollandaise sauce. The waitress was abrupt from the moment we entered and sat us at the table. I politely acknowledged the waitress who came to the table and said, I quote: ‘What’s the problem?’ To which I replied: ‘oh, there is no problem, I was just curious if I was supposed to ask for hollandaise sauce, or is it an extra…?’ I noted on the ‘extras’ of the menu hollandaise was an optional. She spun around, went to the kitchen and returned with a small pot of sauce, put it on the table and walked away! Immediately, I was left to feel like the ‘moaning, groaning’ customer. The serving of salmon was large BUT very hard and VERY dry (see pic attached). Needless to say, left uneaten for the most part. Top the whole experience off, we had a dirty window sill at our table with a human fingernail sitting there (see pic attached).

Friendly Service. Thank you for letting me enjoy an after work wine with a window view in between reservations. Very accommodating and a perfect end to a working day in the city. Booking tip: there is a mixture of high and low tables if you are making a booking and a person in your party is not a fan of sitting on a stall. Then let the wonderful staff know at the time of booking.

Service was great cheers Paul. My wife had the Wellington on a Plate special (Duck Breast). Wow Wow Wow her words not mine. She loves Duck and orders it from almost every menu wherever we eat if its available. She has praised many Chefs from some top restaurants but non more than the Chef at Coene's. I watched her savor every bite and she said all of the accompaniments went perfect with the beautifully cooked duck. Well done Coenes team. We will be back. Oh! My burger and fries was very nice also.

I was the only person in there for breakfast which is always a worry…….the food was great, coffee was hot and staff were friendly and polite it was all topped off with a great view of the Harbour. I would definitely recommend and will eat here again. Happy Travels!
