The City Arms Gastro - Waterford

Popped in out of the rain for a quick drink. Both glasses were chipped and one had lipstick on one side. My gin and tonic arrived with the tonic already in the glass, which makes me assume it was a splash of tonic. Beer was left half full as it didn't taste good. Didn't order food, but the plastic menu on the table was not appetising. That said, it had very low cost options. I wouldn't class this as a gastro pub. One person behind the bar, just on her phone. Granted it was quiet. I wouldn't return.

COVID-19 has left many places in Waterford closed or on short hours, so we found this place near the museums. The beer was good, but the menus were plastic laminated and off-putting. Gastro pub? No. Adequate food, yes. Service was good, but then we were one of only two couples in the place at lunchtime. Had there been more, I think they would be 'taxed '.

So myself, my Wife, my MIL and her friend all went for lunch here. We sat down and we were almost immediately asked what we wanted, so we ordered drinks and the waiter came back a few minutes later with the drinks and wanted to know what we wanted to order again. We ordered no big deal, the food was out fairly quickly. I had the Ribs, my Wife had thr chicken Skewers with some chips(Fries) my MIL Friend had the Chicken tenders wrap. So to start with all the food was fantastic, lots of flavor, hot and very tasty. The only thing I found kind of frustrating was that once we had our food, I'm not sure if the waitress ever came back to check and see how we were doing. We paid the bill which was a good type of treat because it was fairly inexpensive for all the food we got. All in all good food, Medicare service. 4.5 at best.

Attended here last week for lunch with husband and 2 kids. Place looks nice, but that's where it stops. First of all we sat with menu and within 2 mins someone came over to take our order. We asked for another few mins. As that person walked away another waiter came to take our order. Asked for another few mins again. Myself and daughter ordered half chicken dinner, husband had beer battered cod and son had chicken wing. The half chicken was awful, felt like it was 2 days old and had been reheated. It was so dry, both dishes the same. The husband's cod was completely overcooked. The son liked his chicken. My husband asked to speak to the manager/owner, the waiter went to get him, as it turns out the manager/owner Jimmy Ming were also actually the cooks as well. They refused to speak to my husband, hid in the kitchen seemed to be offended by a complaint, and told him that he had to pay for the full meals. Now considering my husband, myself and daughter didn't eat ours but the son did. We would have gladly paid for the food and drink that was consumed. I definitely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this place and if I could give it 0 stars I would.

Staff welcoming straight away, ordered the breakfast: included juice and coffee for a bargain! Best breakfast I've had anywhere.
