Sushi Gakyu - Washington DC

The service at this place is consistently genuine. The staff is friendly and hardworking. The sushi is great. We often enjoy the chirashi because of the preparation and melt-in-your-mouth sashimi.

The sushi here is excellent, and the service is outstanding. The nigiri is of the highest quality.

Perhaps we arrived too late in the evening or had overly high expectations for this restaurant. While the Edo Nigiri and Gakyu Assorted Sushi were generally quite good, the toro we tried had a ligament and lacked the smooth, buttery texture that great toro should have. We’d like to give this place another shot, but we're a bit hesitant. We’ve heard it’s better in January and February.

Nice place, I'd dine in next time. I did think it was expensive for what we received and I didn't think their menu was super unique. Overall I enjoyed the food.

I had a great experience at this restaurant, particularly with the chef's special spicy tuna topped with fresh jalapeños. I've only been there once, but I did notice that the service was a bit slow, even though the restaurant was only half full. We're definitely planning to return, and we'll be more proactive about ensuring quicker service next time!
