Bidrage med feedbackThis meal exceeded even my wildest expectations. Top 10 meals I've ever had and we've travelled a ton and dine regularly in NYC. I was skeptical of the restaurant from some of the Google and Trip Advisor reviews, but those couldn't be more wrong. We got the cheese and meat dishes to start along with the trout tartare. Out of this world! Got the three cheese gnocchi as an entree. Chef Jose is a magician and our waitress Kathleen was wonderful. We'll be back again and I'm recommending this place to everyone. For other who've read the poor reviews. I was told the chef is new and they're not longer doing the prix fixe menu. From what I understand this has made all of the difference. Could not recommend a place more highly!
We had lunch there yesterday. We ordered two starters mussels and pea hummus. For main course. Had the steak fritz and my partner had the seafood salad. Our 4 year old had grilled cheese. We each had a glass of wine and the child had a smoothie. Honestly underwhelmed. Our meals came out before the mussels and pea hummus. My steak was ordered medium rare, it was burnt as were the mushrooms and was way over priced at $45. Partner was not impressed. Having a chef in the family, we expected more from a high end establishment. The favorite dish was the pea hummus, but the shrimp were tasteless. Our child did love the smoothie! If I had looked at the reviews before we went I’d have gone elsewhere. In my opinion, you need to have a consultant come in and retrain your staff and raise the standard.
First, as to my culinary experience at the Mayflower Inn 's Garden Room. Not particularly good with none of the offerings on the tasting menu particularly creative, tasty or memorable let alone sublime), especially given the up to $300 per person charge with wine pairing). Instead, for much better food at a much better value, try the tasting menus at either Arethusa al Tavolo in Bantam or Materia Retaurant in Litchfield.. Then there 's management 's concern for their customers at this Auberge Resorts Collection. Fuhgedaboutit, there isn 't any. When they double-charged me for my $1000, 3 person) meal and I complained about that double-charge, it took two complaints, and two billing cycles, for them to finally correct their supposedly innocent error. And though I was promised, on my first complaint, that if the error was their fault, they would provide an additional credi to my account, they didn 't. And when I sought to hold them to that promise, they ignored me. So, beware, if you 've got an issue with the service at this Auberge Resorts Collection , don 't expect for them to even respond let alone treat you with any kind of respect. Instead, frankly, for them, it 's clearly all about the benjamins. I edit my review to respond to the Inn 's response to my original review. I guess it 's better to get a canned response rather than no reponse at all, as was the case with the 2 letters of complaint I sent directly to the Inn. Presumably, once my criticism went public, it was time to pull out the pr apologia. Well, not accepted. As for the culinary part of my review, let me suggest a taste off between the Garden Room 's chef and those of the 2 restaurants I mentioned in my review Tavolo and Materia with CT thrown in for good measure). If interested, let me know and I 'd be happy to approach the managers of all 3 and see if we also can 't gin up some public interest. Deal?
Unfortunately for my wife and I, we ate at the Mayflower Restaurant in Washington CT last night. We decided to get a simple meal, and ordered a hamburger with fries and I additionally ordered a draft beer while my wife had water. We asked our waitress for the burgers to be cooked medium and assumed that was a simple request, especially at what is portrayed as a higher end Restaurant. My draft beer was served in a 12 oz glass which in most other establishments, comes in a 16 oz glass. When we received our hamburgers, I was surprised to see how small they were, and the order of fries that came with them was one of the smallest size servings I have ever seen. Each hamburger order was 30.00 which was also the highest price I have ever paid for a burger and fries. Even though we ordered them to be cooked medium, my wife's was red and dripping blood. We showed this to the waitress and she said it was because of the lighting in the area where we were seated, and that the burger was fine and as ordered. The waitress offered to return it to the kitchen, but we decided to just take it to go, pay our bill, and leave. Our bill for food, tax and tip came to 90.00. That's $90.00 for 2 small burgers ...1 of which wasnt cooked correctly, with a handful of fries and 1 12 oz beer. CRAZY. Unless you have money to waist on mediocre food at best, I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I would NEVER go back.
We eat at The Mayflower a few times a year, mostly for a special celebratory occasion. It’s a 90 minute drive from our home but usually we view it as a special place and worth the drive. Sadly, today was a really disappointing experience. The garden room was inundated with flies. Before and during our lunch the flies kept landing on us and our food (many, each and every minute). We mentioned it a couple of times to our server (Nick) who said he’d also mentioned it to his manager as a number of people had complained about it. Despite this, nobody came to our table to apologize. Very disappointed given the high class nature of the restaurant and property that something like this isn’t taken care of. We couldn’t wait to leave and decided to go elsewhere for dessert and coffee.
