A. Blikle Cafe - Warszawa

I definitely don't recommend. The famous pączki donut was really dry with a white glazed coating on the outside. The rose jam inside was decent but didn't help improve the donut much. The slight bits of candies orange on top were too little. I also tried the sernik, I didn't like the dry crust around it. The crumbly cheesecake filling inside was dry as well. Also, the lemonade here reminded me of dishwater. And I think I was overcharged for it. Overall, very disappointing cafe.

Went for breakfast to try some of the famous donuts I had been hearing about. Surprisingly, I was not a fan. But there was a bunch of other pastries and food on the menu that was pretty good. This is a great spot to take a break, get a table outside and people watch on Nowy Swiat.

Friends and family couldn't stop raving about this place, so I had to go try one of the famous pączki. They were great, filled with orange and rose and strawberry marmalade, chocolate or cream, and decorated with dried fruits, powdered sugar and icing. They were a little squished though, and the other pastry that I tried a blueberry bun was not great.

A. Blikle is supposed to be historic in that it's been around since 1869. The dessert we tried sernik (cheesecake) and a wuzetka (chocolate cake with cream and raspberry jam), were good, but nothing to write home about. It's a fancier sit down cafe bakery, so the service was attentive. I didn't get a chance to try the other historic dessert place, E. Wedel. Their restaurant lounge looked equally if not more fancy; they may do a better wuzetka.

You looking for something sweet in warszaw? Visit the famous traditionel A. Blikle pastry shop.. called Cukiernia in polish. And try some polish donuts.. called pączki. Baked fresh and very delicious.. filled with jam and sprinkled with orange peel. The Donuts are not like the american style with too much cream.. they are like the 'Berliner ' with jam. And that is good and very tasty. Try the Pączki at my last trip to Warszawa and before this in some other citys. Some other shops, for example 'Stara Pączkarnia '.. offer lots of variations with different Jams and cream.. There are several A. Blikle shops in the city, one of the larger ones at ul. Nowy Swiat 33. Cukiernia Kawiarnia Nowy Swiat. Delicious!
