Located right parallel to the ring (400 m trought the State Park), good for japanese food (sushi, sashimi) and the japanese bottled beer.I wouldn't call it the best Japanese food I ever had but for sure a good average as for Vienna, especially if you are tired from pork sausages and Schnitzel)
We sought out this specific restaurant after learning through the Asian grapevine that this is THE one place that serves authentic xiu long bao in Vienna, and when we arrived outside the place looked so dark and forbidding we even thought it was closed but we braved it into an empty restaurant and the waitress told us to come back in half an hour because they were not ready. So if it wasn't for the recommendation this would have put off any walk in customer. BUT if you are looking for authentic xiu long bao, this is the real deal. Exquisitely folded dumpling casing bursting with mince pork and stock, served with black vinegar, it was as good as any xiu long bao I have had in Hong Kong and Malaysia. One basket with six pieces for 6.50 euros is a steal and it wasn't enough for four people as even both my toddlers loved it. I could have easily finished a whole basket myself! If you took the trouble to go all the way there my advice is order two baskets!There is no denying the level of Chinese cooking here. The chefs here could give establishments back in Asia a run for their money. The texture of the dan dan noodles were just the right level of bouncy. The aubergines fried with salted fish and garlic was super more-ish.. And the battered frog legs in szechuan peppercorn garnish had the perfect balance of flavours. We couldn't sample much more due to our numbers but the only other table (occupied by local.Chinese patrons always a goid sign if you go to an Asian place in Europe, imho) ordered an array of little tapas sized dishes amongst them glass noodles and ma po tofu. Definitely going back again.The one gripe I have about this place is the quality and quantity of the seafood. The prawn dumplings we ordered had too little prawn content. The frog dish was also more batter than frog meat and in both dishes I couldn't taste much flavour therefore judging from the very affordable prices I suspect they probably use frozen seafood. But this is realistic as fresh seafood is difficult to source in Vienna unless you are willing to pay the price. Next time I would stick to the meat, tofu and veg dishes that showcase the chef's skill. Another drawback - no high chair and no apology either so my youngest had to sit on daddy's lap but thankfully the food was good enough to distract her.
The food is average (Austrian version)Chinese at best. Really nothing great about it, but prices are high while quality ( of meat e.g.) is not. Same goes for their service, also the atmosphere in the really dark restaurant is everything but nice. Rather try the really good Asia Bistro around the corner! Or the Greek restaurant a few meters down Heumarkt.
Don't be deceived by the name, it is not a Japanese restaurant. Serves reasonable food and has a good midday meal at a good price. Service is not great but is quick as thee are not many guests. Slightly off putting having a tv or radio playing for the serving staff as they wait for guests to finish.
Based on the name, I thought I was going to a fancy sushi bar...which it definitely was not. The food was still good, but know that it was not a typical Japanese food restaurant. I thought that the food was inexpensive.
