Bidrage med feedbackWe were in the area and looking for something to do. I searched afternoon tea and this place popped up. After a quick look at their website we called and made a reservation. They were able to accommodate us right away so down we went. We were not disappointed! The tea room is cute with all different chairs and teaware. I had the afternoon blend of tea which was fabulous. So fabulous I bought a big tin to take home! We had the afternoon tea so we had a big three tier tray of sandwiches and goodies. I didn't realize at the time when I booked that the restaurant was vegetarian, but I was happy when I realized that information because I don't like seafood on sandwiches (which have been served at other tea rooms I've visited). My favourites were the marscapone watermelon sandwich and the chocolate cake. The vanilla scone was the die for! Staff were lovely, kind and helpful. Thank you!
We had a very enjoyable signature afternoon tea on a Sunday at Venus Sophia. I liked this eatery. It was bright and the décor was simple and casual and I felt like I was in someone's home. We had a scone, 3 kinds of little sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberry and more; plenty of food. And each person could choose their own variety of tea. I liked that all the dishes didn't match; very eclectic. There were some bikes as part of the interior design and we are big cyclists. There was music playing and for a brief time a little girl was really engaged in the music and dancing; so cute. She really was "dancing like nobody was watching". $35 was a reasonable price for fresh food from scratch. We have been to plenty of high teas and enjoyed this one a lot. If you like everything to match and enjoy a more formal atmosphere you might not like Venus Sophia. But we loved it and a great location in Chinatown.
The decor is shabby chic, (which means cheap.) None of the dishes mstch. They try to spin this as cute, but it really means they are buying their cups and saucers from the nearby Value Village. The chairs and tables also don't match so the whole place feels dirty. The only thing that's not cheap is the price. $40 for one person to have a few finger sandwiches, a scone and 3 small dessert squares. $40 and you leave hungry. I assume the food tastes so bland because it's vegetarian. No meat or fish in the finger sandwiches. MANY BETTER PLACES NEARBY
Lovely spot in the heart of Chinatown. Thoroughly enjoyed the tea and sweet sampler. First 'tea' experience with our kids - it was fun for all of us. We loved the tea so much we bought tins to bring home. Yum!
Whenever we come to Canada we make it point to visit Venus Sophia both for the exquisite meals (mainly the cakes) and for its lovely romantic atmosphere. The service is very friendly and prices are reasonable. I wish we had such a tea-room in Switzerland!
