Bidrage med feedbackThe Oak Bay Bistro went out of business. The restaurant currently in that location is "The Oaks", which is much closer to the wonderfully successful "Blethering Place" that occupied that location for +- 30 years.
We were shopping in Oak Bay so stop for lunch when we saw the salon that said burger and beer 9.99. How bad could that be? Well... to start we had a heck of a heck of a time getting served. Finally had to flag a server down from a different section. Who was amased we had not been waited on yet. Thee burger was just ok. It would have been better if it had not been over cooked. My wife had the crab cake. Serious 1 crab cake on a plate. No salad no fries. Nothing. My sister in law had the eggs Benny. She said it had lots of tasty ham but the hollandaise sauce was obviously from a package and lacked flavor. HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS. The beer was cold! On the whole the experience was less than favorable but not poor or terrible. Just disappointing. We Wong be back, to many good places to eat in Victoria.
We had a short period of time to have a light lunch and this place was good for that. We both had a bowl of butternut squash soup and it was tasty and steaming hot. The garlic bread that came with it was one of the best I have had for some time. Although the place was near empty, the service did not reflect that. I had to interrupt 2 servers that were talking to each other to bring us our bill.
Had the taboulle salad that when it came was NOT taboulle at all! Was orzo, garbonzo beans and lettuce. Very expensive for what it was and the skins had not been removed from the beans, were crusty and stuck in my throat.
Good food, good service, view of the bay and passing cargo ships. Might even spot a couple of seals down below or guests lounging in the seaside pool.
