Breakwater Cafe and Bistro - Victoria

Went here on our way to the children's farm. It was an unusual setting of half cafe half tables. It was sooo slow it took 10 minutes for one steamed milk. Friendly service but very slow

We have always enjoyed the Breakwater, especially their clam chowder soup. We come to Victoria once or twice a year and always have their clam chowder. This time the soup was not very good .The flavour and appearance was so different . It wasnt the lovely white creamy soup. It was more grey and thin. I hope this was an off day. Please keep the recipe as it has always been for years!!!!!

Lunch here involves queuing at the counter (rather than at-table service), but none the worse for that. Indeed, the lady who took our order was extremely good-natured about obliging all of our special requests (burgers without tomatoes, smoked salmon bagel without the smoked salmon etc!), and she got them all right! The food came promptly and was good - the chicken burger was particularly good. An unusual feature of the menu was that there were no fries on it - it was a choice of salad or soup. This didn't bother us (we've overdosed on fries since we arrived on vacation in Canada), but it might other others - esp as the soup might not be to everyone's liking (curried chicken being a bit 'specialist' - mine was good but could have been a bit more spicy). All in all, a nice experience in a restaurant at a great location by the beach.

Great place to stop after walker down the breakwater. Nice patio to enjoy on summer day. Great staff and food. Can be a little noisy. Food is a little expensive but good size meals. Great rest area after walk

We arrived at 6:00 PM and needed to be at our tour bus in one hour. We chose it as it is right off the dock from the cruise ships and we needed a quick meal. We ordered as soon as the slow waitress seated us ( took 10 minutes to be seated and it was not crowded). The "outside" area is really stuffy and hot. The food did not arrive ( chicken sandwiches and a fish dish) until 7:00!!! We had 5 minutes, literally, to eat and pay so we did not miss our tour. Don't bother unless you have hours to spend here. ALL of the staff were nice but no one seemed to be doing anything productive to move any orders quickly.
