Bidrage med feedbackWe decided to have a drink at our hotel before we left for a concert. We walked in and sat by the window. The place was really busy, but we were served by the bartender after about 3 minutes. I ordered a glass of the...house red as it was $4 per glass. My spouse ordered a bottle of Granville Island Lager. He returned with our drinks and the wine was ok and my spouse was given a pint glass, when she clearly asked for a bottle. We drank it anyway and a waitress that was really good came by and I had another glass of wine. My spouse never complained about the drink mix up, so that it our fault. The prices were cheap and the service was ok. The waitress was way better than the bartender as she served what was asked for.
I have been a patron of the Comox for almost 20 years, since the early days. The bar and serving staff are excellent, I have never had any issues with them. However, the food is disappointing. It is overpriced, oddly presented, and some items have a strange consistency. It seems like the kitchen has never tasted their own dishes. The pricing is also a bit of a joke. The Comox is a good place to grab a drink, watch a game, listen to music, or play pool. It is a neighborhood bar and should stick to a more traditional menu. I suggest they consider offering a normal burger and fries instead of sliders, regular chicken wings without strange wing tips, affordable nachos (not $18), and avoiding serving fish if it is not prepared properly. I even wrote a letter to the staff about a bad dining experience, but never received a response. Not every bar needs to have a fancy menu, sometimes simple is better.
I have been visiting this restaurant with my friends 2-3 times a month to play pool. We have our own league called Crazy Pool Players and we have a table reserved for us at 6:30 pm. Depending on the number of players, we play either 8 ball or cut throat, and sometimes Scotch doubles when we play in teams. Each game costs only $1, and we enjoy the great deals they offer, especially on Thursdays which is Customer Appreciation Day with highballs priced at $4. We used to go on Wednesdays for wine specials with $10 off a bottle. When you visit, ask for Mary Lynn's section and look out for Graham tending bar. He has some funky hairstyles. Parking on Denman Street is free after 6 pm, but make sure to arrive on time as spaces fill up quickly. Otherwise, you can park at a meter or under the hotel for $2/half hour after 6 pm.
I was on Denman Street around noon when I found a parking spot, so I decided to have lunch at the Comox Street Bar Grill. I ordered a corn dog and a Caesar salad, and I was in and out in 35 minutes. The service was quick and the food was delicious.
Don't mind the dive bar atmosphere, but the $18 nachos were a joke. Barely enough for one person and no dipping sauces. Service was lacking, and rest of food we had was just okay. Wouldn't go back.
