Bidrage med feedbackWe were there for about an hour, and we were pleased to notice that we were the only non-Orientals - a sure sign of good food. There were large table surrounded by large Chinese families. We had excellent barbecue duck and chicken, and some nice soup and fried rice. The lemon chicken was good but not special, and they ran out of the dessert that was supposed to come with my meal. Service was sporadic: the food arrived at all different times. And be forewarned. This is a cash only place; no credit or debit cards are accepted.
We probably been here over 100 but this is the first review. Dishes have been consistent over the years. Service has improved considerably in the last 2 years - no more attitudes. It's in a strip mall with free parking - you can usually find a spot in the mall. For this visit @ 5PM, only 5 tables were ocuupied. Place is dated and tables are showing their age and damage. Some vinyl seats are ripped and roughly repaired. There are tables for 2 to about 12 in the restaurant. The mini meal menu (with free hot drink) is available till 5:30PM. We had the beef stew 'lo mein' and the tomato-chicken rice. Mini meal dishes are smaller than the regular dishes; I was still hungry. Both dishes tasted OK and not greasy. Comparable to other similar restaurants, like Golden Oscar on 22nd. I will be back to 54th because the extended families live nearby.
Wanted a small amount of good for a snack to hold me over til dinner... They were very accommodating - telling me how I could get 2 food choices in a smaller portion - PERFECT! Had Cantonese chow me in & sweet / sour pork ... DELICIOUS ! It's a small store front take out but really good quality food.
This place has been here for years and years and has served the local working and middle class Chinese (and other) residents well. It is located at Champlain Square, a small mall in a largely residential area. The interior is clean, bright and updated. It is a pleasant place for a family to eat in. It also does a steady take out business. I don't know if there is delivery. The food is authentic Chinese cuisine. The chow mein is done exactly how I want and expect, some of it soft and some still crunchy. The meat and vegetables are fresh and colourful. I also like the Hainanese Chicken, the skin is yellow and the meat is moist and slightly pink at the bone (just right). There is also some western items on the menu. The portions are generous and the prices are modest. This is a good place to eat in East Vancouver and in a city where you can find hundreds of Chinese restaurants.
This restaurant is located in a strip mall at 54th avenue and Kerr street in East Vancouver. The décor was clean and functional and consisted of booths and tables. Size-wise the restaurant may have upwards of 20-25 tables.I would describe the menu as your typical Cantonese food in addition to Hong Kong style dishes. On this Saturday night the restaurant was almost empty with only maybe 4 other tables being occupied. The 3 of us ordered from the special menu whereby you have an extensive choice of items (page long) that includes steamed rice, house soup and dessert as the “extras”.The house soup consisted of carrots and other vegetables and soup bones. They don’t give individual bowls of soup but a big soup bowl that held at least six servings. The soup was tasty. For the main courses we ordered the black bean sauce beef and green beans, bean curd and assorted meat hotpot, curry beef brisket and potatoes hotpot. For dessert, we had individual servings of mango pudding and sweet taro root soup with tapioca pearls. All the dishes were tasty. The service was okay. All the dishes arrived more or less as expected except for the curry beef brisket. That dish arrived at least 10-15 minutes later than the other dishes. The average price per dish was around $12. The portion sizes were average. The only drawback is that the restaurant only accepts cash. I stand to be corrected, but I also believe they don’t accept debit cards.I would rate this restaurant as a little above average -3 out of 5 stars.Notes and TipsIt also has a lunch time takeout similar to what you would see at a food court. The washroom was clean.See my review of Yu Kee BBQ Kitchen restaurant which is located less than 2 miles from this restaurant.
