Ginger Pop - Vancouver

We ordered tofu fries at this restaurant, but unfortunately there were no vegan options clearly labeled on the menu and the server was not very helpful in explaining our choices. It seemed like they didn't prioritize catering to a vegan audience.

There are only two vegan options available at this restaurant. The menu clearly labels items as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc., but the vegan and gluten-free icons look very similar. We made a mistake in ordering and realized our error when our server pointed out the limited choices for vegans. The food was overly oily, and we ended up throwing it out after taking it home. The staff were friendly, and the bar had unique drink specials, but the lack of options will prevent us from returning. The restaurant is clean, but the lack of variety left us unimpressed. We tried the curry and basil fried rice, giving the restaurant three stars for providing at least two vegan options for those eating with non-vegans. However, overall, the experience was not memorable and we would not choose to dine there again.

I thought this place in Vancouver was one of the few options for gluten-free and vegan dining, but I was mistaken. Turns out, none of the dishes can be made with curry or Pad Thai sauce because they all contain oyster sauce or fish sauce, as indicated by the leaf icon on the menu. While there are vegan options available for each dish, you can't have the sauce, making the menu misleading. If you're not a vegetarian or don't want fish in your sauce, I recommend finding another restaurant. I was very disappointed and won't be returning.

This used to be my go-to Thai restaurant, but yesterday's experience changed my mind. When I asked for a cup of ice with my online order, I was told it would cost 50 cents next time. This really bothered me, so I called back and spoke to Mona. I told her to take the 50 cents out of the tip I had left and expressed my displeasure with the rude treatment. I eat here regularly and often order a dirty chai with a glass of water, but if simply asking for a cup of water is considered rude, I will find another Thai restaurant to frequent.

I must start by saying that if there were a six star option, this restaurant would definitely deserve it! The customer service is exceptional, with attentive and friendly employees who quickly refill water bottles and regularly check on diners. The food is delicious, with my personal favorite being the yellow curry. After trying many medium curries, this one stands out and will keep me coming back for more. The traditional and charming decorations give the restaurant a cozy, non-chain atmosphere that perfectly complements the fresh Asian cuisine.
