Bidrage med feedbackThis is my second visit to Blue Point. Our first visit was excellent. However, this time, the restaurant was very short staffed our waitress did the best she could and I would never fault anyone for lesser service in this situation. My food was the real disappointment this time. My entree, fried perch, was absolutely terrible overcooked and dry. It was tough and flavorless. Very disappointing. Because I had a great experience the first time, I will it one more shot before I remove it from my list.
Loved this restaurant! A couple of hours before our scheduled arrival, three friends decided to join us and we were able to change the reservation to accommodate five people instead of two. All five of us were impressed with the food and the service. Our server was excellent, despite being extremely busy with several groups in her station. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and made some good suggestions. My date and I started out with the Flash Fried Calamari with Thai Chili Sauce. It was tender and absolutely delicious. (We've had calamari in Italy, and this was even better! For the main course, my date had the Grilled Mahi Mahi and I had one of the night's specials, which was a cod fillet with pesto and a white wine reduction. The large portion of cod was perfectly cooked and the topping was to die for. Scrumptious! Others at our table had Baby Back Ribs, Stuffed Chicken and another fish entrée (I don't recall which one . Everyone was very happy with their choices. My only complaint about Blue Point is that it is very noisy. I don't think it would be the best place for a quiet, romantic date. But we loved this place and will definitely return.
My husband and I dined there after Sunday matinee at local theatre. I was a little apprehensive as my husband is not a seafood fan, but there are so few restaurants open on Sunday in the area, we decided to give it a try. My biggest disappointment came because the online menu is out of date and I had gone in with a preconceived idea of what I wanted. The waitress told me that one item had been discontinued for months and the other is only available during the week, so my suggestion to the manager would be to update the menu linked to from Open Table! It took me a while but I came up with a plan B. There was a small section on the menu for the non-seafood person, so my husband was able to find a meal to his liking. The sushi was okay, but uneven. Two pieces had very little filling, and I felt it was over-priced $16. The somewhat redeeming part of my meal was the seafood linguine which had a generous helping of shrimp, scallops and what appeared to be crawfish as opposed to the advertised lobster. The shrimp were overcooked, but that tends to happen in this type of dish, and the scallops gritty. We shared a dessert of pineapple upside down cake and ice cream and it was delicious. With the wealth of wonderful restaurants in the area, I don't think this one warrants a return visit. A final note, the music selection could definitely be improved.
My wife and I avoided this restaurant since neither one of us eats oysters or sushi. WE SHOULD HAVE TRIED IT SOONER. We are now adding Blue Point Oysters and Sushi to our growing list of favorite spots in NW Indiana. I had the Lake Perch, which is always a favorite of mine. This Lake Perch was at least as good as the famed Tiebel 's on Route 30 in Schererville. Just dusted with bread crumbs, the perch were list and flavorful. My wife (gluten free) had the salmon and raved about it as well. She is always into wild caught and cold water fish as the best source of nutrition. She was not disappointed. Our experienced waitress was available when we needed her to be and very helpful in making dinner selections. When I ordered one Pinot Noir, she suggested another one which was very good and much better tasting for almost the same price . This time I was not disappointed. We had a very pleasurable Friday night date night.
When entering the restaurant, is was packed with people so I thought that was going to be a good sign. The atmosphere seemed good. The tables were jammed together making seating a little uncomfortable. The waitress was somewhat attentive but tried to bring our entire meal (appetizers, salads, main meals) all at once! We had to ask her to bring the main meals back so we could try to enjoy the beginning of our meal. The food was just okay. The calamari was fair; the batter was light but had a little to much grease. The spicy tuna sushi was quite good. The salads were mediocre at best. The linguini with seafood was bland and the seafood fra diavolo with linguini was fair but was made in oil and not the usual traditional red sauce. If the diabolo did not have peppers in it, the two pasta dishes looked exactly the same and unfortunately tasted the same bland for what they should have been. Lastly, I had a reservation that I made on open table two weeks before but when we got there the place was closed for a private event. The owner was going to give us a gift certificate for this meal and when I made this reservation I mentioned that to the person who took the information but it was never applied to our bill as it should have been. I doubt I will be coming back but if I did I would only order the sushi. They are also known for the oyster bar but I don't eat raw shellfish anymore because of various diseases that may be associated with this type of food but I would assume that this should be good. Overall, I do not feel the food was worth the money I spent. The three other people with me for dinner agreed with everything mentioned above!
