Osaki's Sushi Japanese - Vail

Came here on my own and was overwhelmed by how friendly the staff was I ordered a spicy salmon roll and a salmon hand roll which were both beyond delicious!! The sushi chef prepared me a special item since I sat at the bar which included salmon tataki over rice with some special sauce. (Super fresh and savory then I ended the night with a take sunomono to go. In and out so fast and service was on point. I paired my sushi with a glass of wine (cheap and decent when I paid the server made sure I enjoyed myself and encouraged me to come back the next day! Although this place is a little bit hidden (up a flight of stairs and to the right it's worth finding. A gem in the sea of restaurants and bars that make up vail. 100% recommended they also have some awesome hibachi tables. Although I did not attend, I got a sneak peak of the show from the sushi bar and was awfully impressed :

This restaurant is very loud inside, the service is driving the guest into the food and out of the restaurant to turn tables over. I ordered my strip and scallops. The Menu talked about 4 jumbo scallops explicitly. My daughter ordered the kids version of hibachi with my strip. The kids meal had more steak than my adult meal and I was served 2 scallops. The other guests in our party got 3 and 4 scallops. Looked equally sized. When I pointed my 2 scallops dish out to the waitress she just scoffed something at me about weights of scallops. Drink service was rude as well. My son had a sushi roll that was ok. I walked out with a $160 bill and feel robbed. Made a reservation for 12 people a month in advance. Called a few days prior to change the reservation to 13 people. Showed up for our reservation and they had canceled it. They said that they called us to confirm the reservation but because we did not answer, they canceled it. Well, we never received a phone call. And when we asked the man what they called, he could not produce an answer. What the heck kind of policy is that?! Finally, someone was able to seat us. We reserved space at the two grills next to each other but because they canceled our reservation without telling us, we were not able to sit there. We were seated at a large table that had one grill. When handing out waters, the man reached across the table and dropped a glass onto the grill where the cook makes all the food. They wiped it up with almost no regard. Yikes. The food was good but I couldn't help but picture swallowing glass with every other bite. You can get much better food for less money elsewhere in Vail. In short, I'd try somewhere else if I was you.

Food is not too bad. The servers seemed confused at time but we were hungry. Just bring out drinks first then the food. FYI, they automatically added in 20% tips to bill so don't give extra tips. Even though we had 4 people, not 6, tips would add. Hmmm!

Called to make a reservation today... and found out they are permanently closed now. Nearest Habachi grill is now in Breckenridge.
