Halibut House Fish Chips - Uxbridge

Kind of a hidden gem. Nobody eats fish and chips that often but they have other items on the menu including grilled fish, and offer a $6 breakfast. A very pleasant experience.

Ordered tonight after reading an article on how fish chips shops may go extinct due to decreased sales associated with rising fish costs and customers pinching pennies due to inflation. Well it might be due to the declining quality more than anything else: chips were UNDER cooked and the fish was greasy not flaky as is typical for halibut (it was tough in texture and likely not halibut). Cole slaw was served in a small drink cup and not fresh tasting at all. $70 in total for 2 people not worth the gas to pick it up and I’ll never return. I like to support local businesses and take the occasional night off from meal preparation but, as with local pizza joints quality is getting very dismal locally and will go back to preparing my own pizza, fish and other meals 99% of the time vs. Take out. It’s a shame.Update: I thank the owner for their response and offer; I always appreciate it when someone is monitoring and who demonstrates care for customer feedback. Not likely to redeem the offer, but thank you all the same as I’ll give you 4 stars for customer service response.Would like to clarify 2 points.1. What I meant by under cooked chips was partially raw not just less than crispy2. I only eat Halibut generally and I’m very familiar with it being moist yet somewhat flaky (opaque in colour and it will break or chip off in a flake size pieces). This halibut was tough in texture; not moist and the flake was dry.

Service was good but the food was only mediocre and only warm when it arrived, not hot.Fish taste was good but not hot enough. Hamburger was fine but overflowing with mayo. The fries were plain and well spread on the plate for max cooling. Didn't get any coleslaw...
