The Robin Hood - Uttoxeter

I’ve visited three times now, and each time I mentally rate it five stars—there’s really nothing to criticize. The staff are efficient and hardworking, constantly attending to the many patrons who regularly dine there. There's a separate bar and restaurant area, but you can also order food next to the real log fire in the bar, which is a wonderful treat during the winter months. The food is exceptional, especially the steaks, which I highly recommend. They are cooked to perfection every time, featuring lean, beautiful cuts from the local butchers, Sergeants. These steaks are among the best I've had in the country, and when given the choice between chips or salad, you must go for the chips! They are divine—thick-cut homemade chips that are perfect for soaking up the juices from a delicious steak. Beyond the fantastic food and service, we are always pleasantly surprised by the value. My lovely dad treated the three of us, and he mentioned it was only a few pounds more expensive than the meal we had at Frankie & Benny's the previous week... and believe me, there’s absolutely no comparison between the two! The Robin Hood pub is certainly not robbing anyone anymore, rich or poor.

I've visited this pub several times over the years since it's local and my friends seem to enjoy it. There's nothing outright wrong with The Robin Hood, but it’s so average that it almost frustrates me because I want to like it more. The drinks selection is disappointing, with cheap wines like Jack Rabbits and a lack of specialty gins. While the food portions are generous, the presentation leaves much to be desired; most dishes are drenched in sauce or gravy, and the vegetables are overcooked and watery. Additionally, there are no vegetarian options on the Sunday lunch menu, although I suppose you could request one. Still, in this day and age, it's hard to understand why a pub wouldn't offer a veggie option as standard! The staff were the highlight of my visit—lovely and attentive. Unfortunately, this place seriously lacks any sort of finesse, and while I seem to be in the minority given that the pub is always full, I honestly think 3 stars is quite generous!
