Here is the drill. The Halfway House sits across from Bull Lake on Highway 56, which runs North and South and is 39 miles long. It is in the far NE corner of MT and surrounded by the best scenery in the state. The North end of Hwy 56 connects to Hwy 2 and the South connects with Hwy 200 and this location is almost exactly midway between 2 and 200. It is one of the very few commercial businesses on the entire length of highway. It is also the local gathering place, especially during the summer, and always on Friday night, where they host their famous steak feed. The prices are rediculously inexpensive. There is a local winter community in this area, so the bar is always well stocked with you would desire. The menu is good for the isolation factor but don't expect crisp veggies with your steak. Canned beans or corn work because their loaded baked potatoes, steaks, salmon and cod do the job quite well. Burgers, fries, onion rings, grilled cheese sandwiches, caesar salad, etc are all on the menu. Their fried cod is amazing. Forget dessert. Other than ice cream they miss the boat in this category, but who goes to a bar for dessert? There are a dozen slot machines off in a separate room so they don't disturb the mayhem in the main restaurant. During summer months, they serve outside on a nice patio near a tiny creek or outback where they host entertainment and dances. The locals are welcoming and famous for their volunteer fire department which has become one of the best in the state. Don't dress up or worry about make up. Relax. It's Montana. See you there.
Food was excellent! Pizza was better than I expected and was highly recommended. Definitely a local hangout.
Wow! Last night was steak night, and it was amazing. My wife and I both ordered the ribeye, cooked medium rare, along with a loaded baked potato and shrimp. The steaks were perfectly cooked and incredibly tender, and the potatoes were excellent, as well as the corn and Texas toast. The waitstaff were attentive; my two draft beers were always full, and my wife's coffee cup was never empty. We enjoyed great food and exceptional service at a very reasonable price!
This bar is truly one-of-a-kind and has a fascinating history. I've been visiting for years, and it has come a long way in the last 15 years! It's a fantastic spot to stop by, especially during concerts, which are always a blast. The food is delicious, making it an excellent place to grab a bite and enjoy a drink while you're in the area.
