Mare Grande - TROPEA

Finally, three days into my visit of Tropea and I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for a good, honest trattoria serving simple, yet wonderful local fare that isn’t overpriced. I can’t believe this place doesn’t have better reviews! Admittedly, it looks humble. It’s not glitzy and glamorous, but friendly and comfortable. The service is attentive and some of the warmest we’ve received since arriving in Tropea. Whilst the food... bellissimo! There’s pizza, pasta and a few other bits and pieces, plus more than enough wine to keep you happy. My stepfather is Calabrese and a bit of a pizza lover, yet he rates the pizza here as the best he’s eaten on this trip to date. For me, I was so taken by the quality of the food that I refused to let a scrap go to waste. I ended up rolling out, feeling very uncomfortably full, but at least none of their delicious fare went into the bin. Oh, and for the coeliacs and gluten free folk out there, they have gluten free pizza and pasta... and it’s **** good!

Informale, imprevedibile, vicino al mare, ottimo pesce. Questo è il posto dove Montalbano avrebbe pranzato se avesse vissuto e lavorato a Tropea. Altamente consigliato.

Strange that the best food and service is at beach restaurant, super food (both pizzas, salat and pasta) very cheap, super service. must go

Although the pizzas were good the rest of it was not. The house wine was almost undrinkable and the pasta with seafood was all sauce and no flavour. The bread was stale who serves stale bread in Italy. So disappointing, don’t bother

I love this restaurant, right by the beach great seafood. I never go in July/Aug it's just too hot and busy in Tropea. The portions were huge and food was great. I had Caprese and Peche spada and a huge mixed salad. The house was was a bit too sharp for me so maybe oeder a bottle of red/white. It's so cheap any way. Enjoy. English spoken here.
