Walk on the Carso Trieste, in a fresh sunny day. We returned after years in this family osmiza, located in Santa Croce, on the way (path no. 1) that from the village leads towards Prosecco; cottage with a series of benches and tables divided between the house garden and the garage. Typical foods are offered in osmize: meats, some cheese, boiled eggs, pickled/soils, all produced “in the house” or in the immediate vicinity, a kilometer “almost 0”; the food is a good pretext to taste the house wine, offered in bottle (Malvazjia, Vitovska) or disused in the form of grapes. You queue in the garage, ordering food and withdrawing drinks, and you sit at the table (recommended booking) to wait for your order. We have tasted a mixture of everything proposed, drinking the Malvazjia/Vitovska, and ending with a slice of strudel, I think done in the house. Good quality, fast and kind service, prices contained.

A slicer for 3 people, bread, 3 strudel, 1 grappa.. 50 euros. TANTISSIMO! No receipt! Quality ok but crazy price! We will not return and we do not recommend it..

The classic karst osmiza, a beautiful view, great for a snack of local specialties and good Caeso wine.

A good solution for a snack, more or less abundant, and a good glass of wine, in the village of Santa Croce, along the path n° 1 (the “Mediterranean Cross” , which, continuing, runs along the coast of the Carso overlooking the sea, giving the view of beautiful views on the Gulf and the castle of Miramare. Heading from the center of the village to the path, you will find the clue of a landslide attached to a pole of light; the house that hosts the osmiza is located a little further. Some benches, sheltered by large umbrellas, placed in the courtyard, and some other placed inside the garage; this is the context in which you can accommodate, to appreciate the proposals of the refreshment. The activity is carried out in the family, with a service without frills, courteous, but quite frantic. The choice of food is narrow, but very good quality: various meats (dried meat of the Karst, cooked with kren, salami, lonza, speck , cheese, hard eggs, different types of pickles; to conclude, an excellent strudel of apples. Drinks are offered the pleasant red and white wines of the house, but also bottles (Refosco, Vitovska, Malvasia produced by the farm. In spite of the fact that the landslide is definitely not striking, it is very frequented, especially on weekends; for those who frequent the path n° 1, I think it is an almost obligated destination, if one is to pass to an hour “from snack”. Keep in mind that the opening period, however variable, exclusively embraces the beautiful season (orientally in the months from April to September; it is therefore advisable to call to check. Honest prices; to try!
